Job Summary
The Senior Medical Technologist will be responsible to perform laboratory testing and maintenance of daily operations in the clinical diagnostic laboratory to always achieve smooth running of a quality laboratory service.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform assigned clinical laboratory testing accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensure the validity of tests results through the performance of established quality assurance and quality control procedures.
- Reagents/Materials/Supplies monitoring.
- Evaluate clinical specimens received and organise workflow to provide optimum efficiency of testing and turnaround time of results.
- Extract DNA from various specimen types.
- Perform PCR, hybridisation, library preparation, next generation sequencing, as well as a variety of advanced genetic laboratory applications.
- Evaluate results to determine interference, inhibition, or other problems that arise during extraction, amplification, or sequencing of nucleic acids.
- Perform quality control, validation, and other activities to verify the performance of clinical assays.
- To manage and ensure the technical competencies and skill improvement process of the junior and experienced medical technologists through learning curve.
- Ensure the privacy and confidentiality of patient information.
- Maintain equipment by performing assigned maintenance activities and troubleshoot unexpected problems with equipment.
- Identify incidents and non-conformances and communicate these to the Laboratory Manager/Director
- Evaluate inventory of supplies and reagents and communicate order needs.
- Operate computer programs related to equipment and LIS systems.
- Maintain records of test results and archives of data.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Follow all laboratory policies and procedures.
- Participate in laboratory meetings.
- Maintain and demonstrate technical competence.
Desired Skills & Competencies
- Degree in Medical Laboratory/Biomedical Science or related fields.
- Hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques and next generation sequencing.
- Prior experience working at clinical laboratory at public or private healthcare establishment is advantageous, but training will be provided.
- Possess troubleshooting skills and ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and with good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work under tight timelines.
- Good interpersonal relationship skills and enjoy working as a team.
