The Department of Ophthalmology, National University Hospital (NUH) invites applications for Senior/Consultant, Neuro-ophthalmologist. The candidate will be deployed to provide Acute and Chronic Visual Loss (due to diseases of the optic nerve and disorder of the visual pathways), Eye Movement and Pupil disorders, Eyelid and Facial Twitching services including managing conditions in the field of comprehensive ophthalmology including but not limited to cataracts, refractive errors, ocular surface, ocular trauma, ocular infections either within NUH or the NUHS Cluster.
Responsibilities
· Consultants and Senior Consultants are required to carry out their duties as directed by the Head of Department in accordance with the policies and guidelines set by the Hospital, National University Hospital (NUH) and the Ministry of Health (MOH).
· Besides being responsible for patient care, Consultants and Senior Consultants, as senior officers, are expected to provide leadership to all levels of staff, including teaching, training and research.
· Where serious or major clinical situations occur which would affect the well-being or lives of the patients, the Head of Department should be informed and consulted at the earliest opportunity.
· Consultants and Senior Consultants should demonstrate good technical skills including operative and procedural skills.
· Consultants and Senior Consultants should demonstrate their sub-specialty skills and attract referrals in their sub-specialty areas.
· Consultants and Senior Consultants are required to demonstrate expert knowledge in area of specialty and expertise in managing complex medical problems and complications.
· Consultants and Senior Consultants should look to improve standards of clinical practice in his area of specialty and introduce new treatments and procedures.
· Consultants and Senior Consultants should establish the scope of human subject research activities in his/her area of technical expertise and collaborate with cross-disciplinary clinical or scientific partners where appropriate.
· Consultants and Senior Consultants must ensure their commitment to the conduct of research ethics and manage any conflict of interest.
· Consultants and Senior Consultants should be prepared to perform the duties of the next lower grade if necessary.
Requirements
· Qualified in General Ophthalmology, and having undergone further specialised training in Neuro-ophthalmology (e.g. Neuro-ophthalmology fellowship).
· Must be registered with the Singapore Medical Council and must be accredited as Specialist by the Specialist Accreditation Board, Ministry of Health.
