Broad Function
To provide high level of respiratory care services to all patients in the hospital involving critical care, and to coordinate and participate in a variety of duties involved in the operation and maintenance of pulmonary and polysomnography equipment to provide detained analysis of pulmonary physiology tests and polysomnography tests.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, monitor and adjust parameters and evaluate patients on invasive, non-invasive mechanical ventilation and advanced mode of ventilation.
- Perform respiratory care procedures e.g. tracheobronchial suction and assist in procedures e.g. bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy.
- Assess and evaluate patients referred for respiratory therapy services.
- Assist with the intra-hospital transport of mechanically ventilated patients and respiratory care equipment maintenance in ward.
- Provides caregivers’ training for patients requiring long-term respiratory care and CPAP counselling services, information on polysomnography and pulmonary physiology tests.
- Perform routine pulmonary physiology tests, exercise testing, polysomnography test, ambulatory sleep test, pulse oximetry study, manual scoring of polysomnography test, and assessment on validity of pulmonary physiology tests.
- Generate and dispatch accurate reports.
- Maintain record of reports and patients records in departmental database.
- Schedule test appointments and follow up appointments as needed.
- Perform of routine calibration and maintenance of equipment to ensure accurate and reliable assessment and diagnosis; troubleshooting errors when variances arise.
- Check, maintain and manage inventory stock.
- Assist and participate in clinical research activities in the department.
- Participate in Quality Improvement projects as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Be actively involved in hospital’s projects and functions and participate in community outreach programs.
- Uphold and maintain a culture of patient-centered care and safety.
Requirements
- Degree in Respiratory Therapy with a minimum of 2 years working experiences in the Intensive Care Unit of a recognized hospital.
- Respiratory Therapist credentials in the country of training and licensure.
- BCLS certificate (Required)
- ACLS certificate (Preferred)
- Preferred, if not, at least one of the following should be attained within two years of employment:
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and/or
- Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT)
- Required to work in rotating shifts (day/night) as needed.
- Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint needed.
- Should be able to work independently as well as in a team setting.
