RESPONSIBILITIES

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to play a leading role in the development of a climate risk framework for Singapore and other major cities in Southeast Asia as part of an interdisciplinary and multi-institute research project titled Developing a risk assessment and communication platform to translate climate projections to policy.

The successful candidate will play a leading role in advancing our understanding of climate risk reduction in Singapore and the region, and work closely with Professor Winston Chow (Singapore Management University), Professor Adam Switzer (Nanyang Technological University), Associate Professor Sonny Rosenthal (Nanyang Technological University), Associate Professor Brian McAdoo (Duke University) and Associate Professor Terry van Gevelt (Singapore Management University).

Key tasks will include, among others:

  • Conducting research to identify key climate risks in Singapore and other major cities in Southeast Asia;
  • Examining instances of successful adaptation or maladaptation, and path dependencies in climate risk reduction approaches;
  • Collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary team;
  • Publishing research findings in high-impact journals and presenting at international conferences;
  • Mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A PhD in climate science, environmental science, ecology, or a related discipline.
  • The successful candidate will have a strong research background in climate change, adaptation, and mitigation, and the development of risk frameworks as demonstrated by a track record of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
  • The candidate should further demonstrate proficiency in relevant modelling or data analysis tools, excellent communication skills, and an ability to conduct independent research and work effectively in an interdisciplinary team.
  • An interest in translating climate science to policy is an added plus.
