Title – Special Education Teacher
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
o
Experienced and qualified counsellors to provide special needs education in the following areas to students of different special needs:
o The concerned person shall be responsible for the entire curriculum, the early intervention processes that will be followed to support students’ needs, and teaching practices to create a world class special needs learning program.
o Should prepare early intervention program which should significantly increase their functional skills and their successful entry into adulthood.
o The function of early intervention programs is to prepare children for the future academic tasks they will need to master as part of the general education curriculum.
o Counsellor should work on developmental tasks young students with SEN need to master, fall in the areas of: Gross Motor Skills, Fine Motor Skills, Language development, Functional Language, Social Language, Semantics, Letter Recognition, Mathematical Skills.
o Monitor children’s behavioural patterns and arrange appropriate interventions if needed
o Manage classroom crises and resolve conflict
o Coach/mentor other professionals who work with children with disabilities
o Collaborate with the support staff (e.g. school counsellors and teachers) to create holistic intervention plans
o Support the students by providing intervention
o Strategize with parents and outside professionals by developing feasible solutions
o Prepare and implement goals for intervention and remediation
o Collaborate with teachers by indicating feasible changes in the class work
o Cooperate with faculty to differentiate instruction (in content, process, product, and environment) in order to facilitate student learning and growth
o Document student progress and identify the student’s strengths and needs
o Create a safe atmosphere for each child, adhering to strict confidentiality
o Communicate with parents and teachers about students who have been recommended for support.
o Collaborate with Coordinators/Sr. Coordinators to recommend specialists who may provide specific services
o Communicate with specialists currently working with students
o Review students’ records and evaluations with Coordinators and respective class teachers
o Attend meetings for students receiving learning support services
o Consult with and exchange information with teachers for reports
Skills & Competencies
Proven experience as a Special Education Teacher or relevant role
Good knowledge of current special education topics and methodologies
Experience working with children with a wide range of disabilities
A patient, resourceful, and resilient personality
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
II. JOB PURPOSE
Special Educator teacher to support Chinese students - Knowledge of Mandarin / English dialects is preferrable.
Ensure to help students who need extra support with their learning; work with students who have mild to moderate learning difficulties.
IV. JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications
Degree
Certificate/ Diploma in Special Education.
Experience - 2 -5 years of experience in teaching students with special needs/ learning disabilities
