The job of an academic is challenging and meaningful. The candidate is expected to develop and teach the Diploma in Nautical Studies and Certificate of Competency courses in the following areas:
• Principle and Practical Navigation
• Ship Knowledge
• Ship Operations
• Cargo Work
• Meteorology
• Electronic Navigation Systems
• Maritime Communications
• GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System)
• Basic Occupational Safety & Security Training
• Navigation Simulator Training
• IMO Conventions and Legislations
Responsibilities:-
- Conduct lessons and review teaching materials for both Pre-Employment Training (PET) and Continuing Education and Training (CET) courses.
- Ensure that new/existing teaching curriculum modules are aligned to the Standards of Training, Certification and Watch-keeping (STCW) Convention and to the practices of the maritime industry.
- Collaborate with industry to enhance students’ learning through activities such as industry field trips, student-industry projects, internship program and overseas programme.
- Serve as an advisory role to ensure equipment and training facilities are updated and operationally-ready for practical training sessions to ensure an authentic learning experience.
- Exercise mentorship and pastoral care to students.
- Participate in Internal and External Quality Maritime Education and Training (QMET) audits.
- Support polytechnic and school events especially in the area of education counselling guidance and outreach.
Requirements:-
- Holder of Deck Officer Class 1 or Class 2 Certificate of Competency issued by MPA or relevant authorities.
- At least 4 years of working experience within the maritime industry.
- Passionate about education and possess strong interest in teaching and mentoring students.
- Team player with the ability to work independently.
- Possess good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Successful candidate will be offered a 2-year contract in the first instance.
