Objectives of the Position
Lead and develop the SCALE business (which includes Bangladesh, Pakistan, Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Sri Lanka) profitably, while ensuring the strategic and operational topics are discussed and aligned with Business Unit for delivering the BASF Group Corporate Strategy.
Main Tasks:
The incumbent is responsible for the overall vision and strategic development of the SCALE business:
- Plan and implement country specific strategic plan and operation model to achieve business growth
- Formulate the overarching market development concept and develop country specific business growth strategies
- Organizational development of SCALE including continuously identifying solutions and optimization in how SCALE operates
- Workforce concept including implementation of the company’s diversity targets
- Leverage synergies by actively exchanging with other AS countries and actively supporting AS community
- Manage interfaces and cross-business collaboration. Support cross-business collaboration and synergies to maximize BASF’s value and local positioning
- Establish regular strategic dialogues with the BUs including influencing for change management and generating transparency on progress
Business Steering:
Full accountability for the financial performance of SCALE to ensure that the agreed targets are achieved, e.g. top line, overall profits, margins, fixed costs, working capital and other qualitative targets:
- Establish efficient business monitoring tools or market intelligence, monitor business development and take corrective actions where needed
- Take charge of SCALE’s annual budget to ensure that budget targets are met, revenue flows are maximized, and fixed costs are minimized
- Drive strict cost discipline to improve the competitiveness
- Ensure strong and effective distribution management across countries
People Development:
Responsible for the overall people development of the team of senior leaders and country organization to ensure SCALE achieves its business objectives:
- Lead, guide, evaluate and develop the country team to become real entrepreneurs
- Continuously scout, develop and retain talent to ensure the formation of the ‘best team’
- Establish talent development concept for SCALE, develop talents and drive the succession planning for SCALE leadership levels
- Act as role model and motivates for high performance including but not limited to driving sales excellence initiatives
- Cultivate an entrepreneurial and innovative culture and improve employee engagement
- Create an inclusive environment that embraces diversity
Requirements:
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Business is preferred.
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience in leading, directing and controlling the activities of a business unit to achieve short and long-term financial and operating objectives as set by the overall corporate business plan.
- Experience in managing specialty products or value chains with a high degree of integration and complexity, and in negotiating and managing complex business contracts and multi-year agreements.
- Experience in managing a team to drive change in a dynamic business environment, with a highly diverse team and a cross-cultural environment.
- A wide knowledge of the chemical industry e.g., size, current situation and future scenarios; key players, competitors and other stakeholders; regulatory and other statutory requirements.
- An understanding of financial management and wider management principles and techniques.
- Excellent communication and presentational skills with high level of political savviness, cultural sensitivity and appreciation of the demands of conflicting interests

- High level of commercial and organizational awareness
- Strong ability for analytical and strategic thinking
