The Secondary Instructional Coach will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning in all content areas. The Instructional Coach will focus on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding of research-based effective instruction. In order to fulfil these expectations, the Instructional Coach will provide personalised support that is based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers in support of the school’s action plans.
Reporting Relationships
- The Secondary Instructional Coach reports directly to and is supervised by the Head of Secondary.
- The Secondary Instructional Coach collaborates with the Secondary Teaching and Learning Coordinator, the IBDP Coordinator, and the Secondary Pastoral Care Coordinator.
- The Secondary Instructional Coach has a collegial relationship with teaching staff and refers any performance or professional issues regarding teacher performance to the Head of Secondary.
Essential Responsibilities
- Motivate and facilitate the professional development of teachers.
- Communicate and demonstrate research-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance. Model lessons when appropriate.
- Communicate and demonstrate research-based instructional practices that result in improved classroom environments.
- Encourage professional growth and provide organised, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers.
- Assist teachers with designing lesson plans and learning activities. Assist with reviewing lesson plans and provide lesson plan feedback to teachers.
- Assist teachers in creating instructional materials that are in alignment with curriculum.
- Regularly conduct informal classroom observations and provide feedback to teachers.
- Assists with the development of new teachers.
- Facilitate professional learning communities.
- Assist teachers with collaborative lesson planning.
- Assist teachers with adapting instruction based on formative and summative assessment results.
- Help teachers make instructional decisions based on culturally responsive practices.
- Assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.
- Provide support for student motivation and management strategies.
- Support teachers with software products and classroom/curriculum related technologies to support teaching and learning.
- Provide support in analysing student assessment data.
- Support, implement and assess new programmes and initiatives aimed at improving instruction.
- Ensure the OWIS Secondary Learning Principles are implemented effectively in the classroom.
- Ensure the OWIS Essential Skills are taught and assessed.
- Ensure the IB Learner Profile attributes are explicitly developed in the classroom.
- Participate in teacher goal/plan setting and evaluation.

Requirements:
- Minimum two (2) years or more relevant full-time teaching experience as a qualified teacher ( is a must). Teaching qualification certificate is required.
- Must have strong knowledge and experience of subjects for Secondary, IGCSE and IBDP level.
- Experience in an international school environment (preferred).
- Preferred to be able to speak Spanish is an advantage.
- A passionate educator with the ability to deliver inquiry based learning.
