Purpose of the Job
Develop and implement early childhood programs for a group of children and teach English or Mother Tongue languages in the centre. Provide a valuable head start by nurturing the children with skills and values, instilling a lifelong love of learning.
Key responsibility areas
Classroom Management
- Plan and deliver a holistic and developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum.
- Set up a conducive learning environment to facilitate children’s learning (learning corners, updating classroom charts and theme board and changing children’s artwork display board every month).
- Refine the children’s language literacy and numeracy skills through the use of songs, games, stories, show and tell, dramatization, hands-on activities etc.
- Engaging children in discovery science, cookery, health and hygiene and arts & crafts through experiment, observation, sensory, demonstration, inquiring, testing etc.
- Provide a safe and clean learning environment for the care and development of children in the centre.
- Provide activities, apparatus and equipment to support the various curriculum areas.
- Create interesting teaching aids and utilize a range of effective teaching techniques in the delivery of programmes.
- Assist and supervise children during their meal times, bathing, napping and taking transport.
Communication with Parents and stakeholders
- Assess the progress of children by way of observations, and assessments and submit reports and recommendations to the Principal.
- Update the Principal and Senior Teacher of any accident or significant incident.
- Maintain good relations with parents and communicate/update them of any concerns through various means – phone calls, communication book, face-to-face, etc.
- Conduct parent-teacher meetings at least twice a year based on observation records and progress reports of the children.
Maintain physical well-being of children
- Track the daily attendance of children and conducts morning health check to detect HFMD symptoms.
- Provide a safe, tidy and hygienic learning environment for the care and development of children in the centre.
Center Administration
- Work within the childcare centre’s policies, philosophy and procedures.
- Participate in regular meetings, brainstorm, clarify and resolve issues.
- Participate in the centre’s events and organize festive celebrations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal/Management.
Required qualifications and experience
For K1/K2 Teachers
- Bachelor's Degree in Pre-school Education
- Diploma in Pre-school Education – Teaching (DPE-T) / Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (DECCE-T), or its equivalent recognized by ECDA.
- Certificate in Preschool Teaching (CPT) / Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education (CECCE), Advance Certificate Early Years (ACEY) or its equivalent recognised by ECDA.
- Fundamental certs in Early Childhood (FECCE)
- 5 GCE O level including EL or MT.
- Has registered with ECDA and attained an L2 certification.
For N2 Teachers (for Nursery, Pre-Nursery and Playgroup 18 months - 4YO)
- Minimum 3 GCE O levels including EL or MT.
- Has the Certificate in Pre-school Teaching (CPT) / Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education (CECCE), or its equivalent recognized by ECDA.
- Has registered with ECDA and attained an L2/L1 certification.
- Experience working in the Childcare centre setting.
Required competencies
- Demonstrate good communication skills.
- Adequate knowledge of current early childhood care and education development theories, research and practices.
- Ability to work well with children, parents and caregivers.
- Good and detailed knowledge of government regulations, and quality assurance framework (Child Care Center Act and Regulation, SPARK, etc.).
