Over the last 19 years, Thurlestone Shipping has developed into a successful player in the dry bulk, sale and purchase and FFA markets, with 11 offices across the globe.
We are looking for a Junior Freight Analyst to conduct research on the dry bulk shipping sector, undertaking in-depth analysis on dry bulk commodity flows and supply-demand balances to provide value-added intelligence services for clients. The candidate will report to the Senior Freight Analyst and work closely with shipbrokers.
Responsibilities
- Gather, clean and synthesize relevant data and information from available resources and appropriate external networks
- Ability to encapsulate valuable insights and translate market impact in a timely and effective manner to internal and external stakeholders, either through qualitative or quantitative reports
- Monitor economic and industry-specific news, to identify and flag potential risks or changes in market conditions that could affect stakeholders in the dry bulk market
- Proactively identify and implement effective solutions to address the team’s needs, while actively engaging in collaborative problem-solving initiatives
Background/Skills/Experience
- Bachelors’ degree, preferably in Maritime Studies, Finance, or Economics
- Ideally 1 year’s work experience, preferably in dry bulk shipping or commodity-related fields
- Computer-literate, meticulous and comfortable with managing large sets of data, especially using Microsoft Excel
- Strong problem solving, analytical and quantitative skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Inquisitive and investigative nature
- Able to swiftly assimilate new concepts
- Team-player who can also exhibit a high level of initiative and independence
- Experience in research and report writing
