Position Summary
The Private Mandarin Teacher will work alongside the Principal to develop and deliver a child-centred bilingual early education program in a private multi-generational setting. Established in a landed property, this 0-3 program combines various teaching and learning approaches with intergenerational activities. The small group size (1-5 children) enables meaningful interactions between the teachers, children and extended family members. The Mandarin teacher should feel comfortable working with and in the presence of the parents and grandparents of the children in their care.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Plan and organise quality Integrated Early Childhood and Intergenerational programs in conjunction with the principal.
2. Maintain the holistic development and care for the children, while ensuring that the environment is safe and meets the needs of the parents and children.
3. Develop and implement teaching and learning approaches which are both emergent and structured and will enrich the learning experiences for the children (and family members) in both English and Mandarin.
4. Facilitate positive and constructive engagement with parents and the community through informal and formal social and educational events.
5. Assist the principal in the management of operations: student admission, planning, and procurement.
6. Be involved in staff/parent development activities.
7. To cooperate with the local Association and participate in Association activities.
Requirements:
1. University degree preferred.
2. Hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education-Teaching (DECCE-T) and the Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education Leadership (DECCE-L) or its equivalent (ECE Diploma).
3. Minimum 2 years of experience working in a play-based early childhood centre. Experience in infant care preferred. Experience with senior populations would be an asset.
4. Facility in both English and Mandarin teaching
5. Be a strong advocate for children’s rights and possess strong interpersonal skills which will convey the importance of multi-generational living to parents and stakeholders.
6. Possess a strong work ethic and a desire to create and extend the goals of the current program.
7. Reggio-inspired exposure will be advantageous
