Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
-> Supporting operations and resource managers of the portfolio companies:
- Providing strategic guidance and technical assistance, ensuring forestry operations exceed industry standards.
- Assisting portfolio company managers with developing and implementing strategic plans which incorporate commercial and ESG objectives.
- Supervising portfolio company operations and ensuring compliance with operational S.O.P’s and occupational health and safety and environmental standards and guidelines.
- Assisting with the development of local staff skill levels.
- Implementing New Forests operational guidelines, sustainability policies and reporting frameworks including greenhouse gas inventory and emission reduction plans.
-> Supporting the fund level portfolio:
- Developing strategic plans and ensuring key strategic objectives are achieved.
- Assisting with budgets, governance, and finance.
- Assisting investment businesses with internal and external reporting.
- Co-ordination of technical collaboration between the investee companies.
- Compiling investor and internal reporting and field tours.
-> Supporting the fund Investments team in acquisition and divestment efforts:
- Initial due diligence and analysis of pipeline projects.
- Developing strategies for pipeline assets and assisting with the development of acquisition models.
-> Developing and maintaining resource, processing, and financial models for portfolio companies:
- Overseeing investee company resource description standards, including for commercial forest, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity/community use.
- Building forestry/resource financial models for strategic planning.
- Leading and supporting third-party valuation processes of portfolio companies.
-> Contributing to corporate strategy, governance, sustainability and responsible investment projects and activities across the New Forests business.
-> Working alongside and in collaboration with staff in the wider Asia operations team, including the investment analytics, carbon and environmental and social positions.
-> Engaging across the business to support strategic projects and corporate initiatives.
-> Periodic and ad hoc client and internal reporting.
We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications, experience and strengths:
- Strong experience in the management of corporate plantation forestry operations, timber processing and associated financial modelling. Experience with tropical forestry operations and relevant tertiary qualifications will be well regarded.
- Working knowledge of operational best practice and sustainable forest management standards (i.e. FSC, PEFC, IFC PS).
- Ability to manage forest resource description, estate optimization and geographic information systems used to inform financial valuations and strategic plans. Experience with carbon modelling and voluntary carbon standards would be well regarded.
- Willingness and ability to routinely undertake travel, throughout Asia, including in remote areas.
