Executive (Exhibitions)
The Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore (ICAS) is the curatorial division of LASALLE College of the Arts. Situated at LASALLE’s dynamic city campus, ICAS’s five galleries present a programme of curated international exhibitions alongside exhibitions organised with students, academic staff and alumni. ICAS provides curatorial expertise and resources in the areas of exhibition development, display and mediation, publishing and education, and manages the LASALLE College of the Arts Collection.
Reporting to the Manager (Operations) of ICAS, the Executive (Exhibitions) will work closely with curators, artists, administrative and academic staff and students to produce, install and maintain exhibitions at the galleries. You will also be responsible for the maintenance of equipment and furniture inventories, supply of consumables, and maintenance of the technical store. Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Plan and coordinate production meetings with relevant stakeholders (including artists, curators, staff and students) to determine the scope of work required for each exhibition.
- Plan, prepare, assemble and dismantle exhibitions to a standard of excellence that meets international museum best practice.
- Undertake research, design and/or commissioning of specialist furniture and equipment as required for exhibitions.
- Oversee the transportation, unpacking and packing of artworks and other related materials.
- Physically adept at handling bulky crates or large-scale artworks.
- Maintain the condition of display collections installed on campus, and coordinate borrowed equipment and furniture in a safe and professional manner.
- Compile asset listings and inventories, and coordinate the supply of consumables for use in exhibition preparation and installation.
- Coordinate and maintain the supply of consumables for use in exhibition preparation and installation.
- Induct, oversee and assist staff with use of equipment and safety procedures.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in fine arts, media arts, arts/events management or equivalent with two years and above of relevant work experience in galleries/museums/events management.
- Diploma holder with five years of relevant work experience in galleries/museums/ events management will be preferred.
- Experience in liaising with multiple stakeholders (artists, curators, students, staff and the general public), including external suppliers, in the development, production and successful exhibition installations/dismantling.
- Good knowledge of the relevant techniques and maintenance requirements for technical and storage areas, which include undertaking risk management/ assessment, stock monitoring, security and safety documentation.
- Good knowledge in technical and maintenance of IT and audio-visual equipment, such as presenting screen, sound-based art and in maintaining audio-visual equipment/digital media resources, and being able to provide technical advice and support as and when required.
- Good skills in preparing and mounting complex work-based contemporary art exhibitions including hanging, lighting, signage and installation processes, including safe handling, transportation and packing of works in various media.
- Good interpersonal, spoken and written communication skills, and able to communicate with individuals across a wide range of positions, interests and skills, from artists and students to sponsors.
- Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team, and collaborate with students/colleagues at all levels.
- Good knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Health Act and other work-related regulations or legislations. Having a valid occupational first aid certificate would be an added advantage.
- Familiar in operating with Mac platforms and proficient in Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and other appropriate software. Knowledge in Photoshop and Illustrator would be an added advantage.
