About the role:
- The role relates to the management of civil infrastructure contracts, through design, tendering, construction and maintenance stages. The role requires a flexible ‘hands-on’ approach and broadly includes the following:
- Develop and implement organization-wide construction contract strategies, minimum contract requirements, documentation and best practices for the company's global civil infrastructure projects.
- Develop and implement practical organization-wide contract risk assessment and risk management protocols.
- Work closely alongside the company's global project managers, senior management and legal teams on the management of civil contracts.
- Lead, support, and oversee the management of civil infrastructure project contracts, including tender strategies, preparation of tender documents, tender process, evaluation, negotiations, award, and contract administration.
- Prepare/review project cost estimates, analyze market price movements and recommend project pricing structures for inclusion into contract documents.
- Assess project contract risks and recommend optimum allocation of contract risk.
- Lead, oversee and support the evaluation, management and resolution of contract claims.
- Report on contract outcomes. Identify lessons learned and practical improvement actions and feedback into the company best practice. Benchmark project contract outcomes against key performance indicators (pricing and program, claims etc).
- Build organizational capacity and knowledge across the company's civil engineering community and at the senior management level.
- Be a trusted advisor and provide expert advice and support to the senior management. Build strong working relationships and trust with BU civil engineers and senior management; be seen as a ‘go to’ provider of solutions and demonstrate added value.
- Other duties that may be required from time to time.
About you:
- Bachelor’s degree (BEng or BSc) in a relevant field (for example Civil / Structural Engineering; Quantity Surveying; Construction Management; Contracts Management ) and (where appropriate) a post-grad qualification relating to construction contracts.
- Professional qualifications (Chartered or equivalent) with a relevant professional accreditation body.
- Proven experience in tender document preparation, tendering and contract negotiations and contract administration for major international civil infrastructure projects. Experience in ports and marine projects would be an advantage.
- Highly experienced in international forms of contract (such as FIDIC) and contract structures (Design and Build; Build Only, multi-contract projects etc).
- Contracts experience within civil law and common law jurisdictions.
- Experience of working within public procurement rules.
- Fully conversant with the allocation of contract risk and requirements for contract bonds, insurances etc.
- Experienced in claims assessment, negotiations and dispute resolution. Familiar with international claims adjudication and arbitration processes.
- Experience and gravitas to be able to develop and implement contract strategy and to oversee, direct and support major civil contracts and to become a trusted advisor to civil engineering colleagues and senior management.
- The requirements above will typically require a minimum of 10 - 15 years of relevant professional experience.
- Good team player with strong communication and influencing skills. Able to work effectively and build effective working relationships with international civil engineering teams and senior management.
- Willingness and aptitude to travel and work overseas on short-duration visits.
- Self-starter, energetic, focused. Able to work with minimal direction, to deal with multiple projects, and to prioritize key tasks. Able to actively identify requirements and propose practical and effective solutions.
