Assistant Manager/Senior Assistant Manager, Teaching Laboratory

The incumbent is required to provide timely assistance and support in teaching lab activities in SPMS Physics and Applied Physics (PAP), and other ad-hoc administrative and outreach duties as and when required by Division.

1. Overseeing teaching lab activities in Undergraduate Teaching Lab, which include:

  • Schedule student experiments and viva, conduct student briefing.
  • Schedule Teaching Assistants’ (TAs’) lab session duties, conduct TA briefing.
  • Set up and maintain course website.
  • Ensure experimental setup and lab consumables required for students’ experiments is adequate and in working condition. Take necessary actions and set up measures to minimize setup repairs.
  • Provide instructions and guidance to students during lab sessions, troubleshooting of experimental setup if required.
  • Plagiarism screening and investigation for student lab reports.
  • Assist Faculty Coordinator in collecting student reports and consolidating scores.
  • Ensure students follow the safety rules in the lab.
  • Handle procurement of lab supplies and setups.
  • Handle disposal of lab consumables and equipment.
  • Maintain proper documentation of teaching lab inventory and assets.
  • Review of experiments, facilitate new experiment launch to revamp teaching labs.
  • Conduct lab visits and Physics demo experiments for outreach.

2. Overseeing and administering PAP Division’s part-time Work Study Scheme (WSS) student claims and its funding:

  • Create student job numbers, process claims in WSS system.
  • Proper filing of student claims for audit check.
  • Answer all WSS-related queries within Division.
  • Plan and track Division’s WSS expenditure, submit yearly budget plan and mid-year budget review to school.

Requirements:

  • A recognized Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Strong ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively with students, faculty and team members.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Responsible and reliable
  • Proactive and positive attitude towards work tasks.
  • Possesses characteristics of being assertive and meticulous
