The Field Application Scientist is responsible for delivering scientific expertise and support to customers using Thermo Fisher Scientific products. This includes providing training and assistance through various channels such as in-person, phone, and email communications.


The role primarily focuses on supporting the Next Gen Sequencing and Microarray portfolios. The Field Application Scientist collaborates with sales representatives to provide pre- and post-sales customer support and effectively resolve customer escalations. By acting as a trusted expert, this position enhances customer satisfaction and loyalty, contributing to the overall success of the business.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts start-up applications training for customers either in their laboratories or at Thermo Fisher Scientific training centers.
  • Performs product demonstrations at customer sites or company locations.
  • Provides troubleshooting support to customers in the field or remotely via phone/email.
  • Resolves customer issues and complaints, escalating when necessary.
  • Reports technical trends in the territory by communicating customer concerns and issues to internal partners.
  • Maintains technical competency by attending trainings, staff meetings, and staying updated on new products, markets, customers, and competitors.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills and adaptability in situations with limited standardization.
  • Manages schedules effectively and negotiates conflicts.
  • Works independently, showing self-motivation and proactivity.
  • Trains, coaches, and mentors team members.
  • Possesses a customer-centric attitude and stays informed about markets, trends, and competitors.
  • Manages expenses, schedules, and tracks activities.
  • Embraces and leverages diversity of culture and thought.
  • May be assigned additional related duties as required.

Experiences:

  • 5+ years of laboratory or related work experience.
  • Experience in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and/or Microarray is essential.
  • Experience in a clinical, diagnostics, and/or regulated market is a plus

Knowledges, Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong ability to present technical information in written and verbal forms.
  • Customer-facing experience and proficiency in delivering technical and scientific presentations to various audiences is highly desirable.
  • Incumbent is required to be fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Demonstrates clear and concise communications and can interact with a diverse population of internal and external contacts.
  • Able to work independently, solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Able to be flexible and support other portfolios when the needs emerge
  • Astute, anticipates needs and problems while creating solutions.
  • Position is based in Singapore, but requires travel to SEA countries up to 50% of the time. Travel will focus, but not limited to around Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia on a regular basis.
