Senior Underwriter, APAC Casualty


Position Overview:

As a Senior Casualty Underwriter in Asia Pacific, you will assume a lead underwriting role of complex and multinational casualty risks for the region. This position requires a high level of expertise in casualty underwriting, strategic thinking, and collaboration with various stakeholders. The Senior Casualty Underwriter plays a key role in shaping underwriting strategies, mentoring junior underwriters, and contributing to the overall success of the organization.


Responsibilities include:

  • Focus on new business production and renewal retention in a growing profitable GL portfolio.
  • Underwrites all accounts in accordance with underwriting guidelines and individual authority granted by management.
  • Make strategic underwriting decisions on large and intricate accounts, considering market conditions and company guidelines.
  • Monitor the performance of existing policies, identifying areas for improvement and recommending portfolio adjustments.
  • Provide input and feedback at the weekly underwriting meetings.
  • Monitors all industry and specific account trends. Implements a field service reputation that is recognized as superior in the industry.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key clients, brokers, and industry partners
  • Act as a senior point of contact for complex client inquiries, negotiations, and conflict resolution.
  • Mentor and train junior underwriters, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance the team's capabilities.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of underwriting guidelines, pricing models, and product offerings


Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Relevant experience in casualty underwriting, with a focus on complex and multiantional risks in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Power BI/PPL experience beneficial but not essential
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Economics background preferred but not essential
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in an at times a pressured environment
  • Appetite and hunger to learn and grow and ‘go the extra mile’.
  • Eye for detail
  • Ability to organize efficiently
  • Competent in all Microsoft packages
