- The Chief Engineer, as the head of the Engine Department, shall assist the Master and control shipboard operations under the jurisdiction of the Engine Department under the direction of the Master. He shall be responsible for the following duties:
(1) The drawing up plans of operation, care and maintenance of machinery.
(2) Appraisal of the condition of machinery as a whole including deck auxiliary machine.
Instructions to the subordinates for effective operation of machinery.
(3) The preparation and safe keeping of oil record book.
(4) The replacement, effective management and control of fuel oil and lubricating oil.
(5) The preparation and safe keeping of Engine Abstract Logbook.
(6) The preparation, attendance and checking of various inspections, and the safe
keeping of relevant certificates.
(7) The assessment and approval of maintenance schemes of the Engine Department.
(8) The control of the spares and ship’s stores of the Engine Department.
(9) The control of dangerous articles under the jurisdiction of the Engine Department.
(10) The disposal and control of the engine room bilge and waste oil.
(11) The labour management and evaluation of the Engineers and crew of Engine
Department.
(12) The Maintenance and safe keeping of drawings and logbooks under the jurisdiction of the Engine Department.
(13) The measures taken against the stowaways.
(14) Other matters instructed by the Master
