Polymer and Composite Processing (PCP) Group is seeking a motivated individual to fill the position of Research Scientist in the Integrated Composite Processing Section. This position requires the applicant to lead and conduct research in advanced fibre-reinforced composites forming technology, study and characterization on metal/composite, composite/composite structures. The scientist is required to support both industry and R&D projects where process innovation, structural testing and material characterizations are needed. Experience in project management, grant writing and patent applications will be advantageous. Basic knowledge of material circularity, CAD design, finite-element analysis and algorithm development is preferred.
Job description:
- Research into novel fibre reinforced thermoplastic composites in multi-material systems.
- Working with a team of scientists and engineers to enhance capability of hybrid forming technology.
- Formulate scientific research direction and innovative proposals to secure competitive funding.
- Understand advanced manufacturing domain and provide innovative solutions to industry problems in the area.
- Familiarity with forming technologies of metal, composites and polymer materials.
- Conduct mechanical tests, failure analysis and material characterizations.
- Develop and test innovative solutions to composite thermoforming process technologies.
- Prepare project progress update presentation for customers.
- Prepare research project proposals, presentation and reports, conduct R&D experiments and file technology disclosures.
- Support in the process equipment set up, laboratory operations, and inventory management for export control items.
- Keep good record of production work orders, laboratory data, methods, results and drawings, etc.
- Able to perform well in both industry-type and research-type projects.
Required Background
- Ph.D. in Aerospace/ Mechanical/ Material Science Engineering.
- Graduates with strong fundamentals in material science and mechanical engineering are welcome.
- Good track record of scientific publications in top journals and conferences.
- Excellent technical presentation and scientific writing skills.
- Can-do attitude and able to work with different needs of various stakeholders.
- Proactive team player and technically motivated to solve problems and discover new research topics.
- Competent in the use of 3D modelling, process simulation and FE structural analysis.
- Experienced with composite moulding machine operations and process troubleshooting.
- Meticulous, fine attention to details and technically inclined towards process and laboratory work.

- Comfortable with customer/vendor interactions and handling project negotiations
