We are looking for a Vessel Operations Specialist (Dry Bulk) for one of our global shipping clients. The specialist will be responsible for operating vessels and providing subject matter expertise for the daily execution of allocated voyage and time-chartered vessels. The ideal candidate would have at least 3 years’ relevant experience in a bulk ship operator role, with strong communication, numeric and analytical skills.
Responsibilities:
- Efficiently oversee and monitor day-to-day on-water activities, serving as the primary point of contact for operational issues.
- Strategically plan, oversee, and optimize the operational performance of vessels.
- Interpret charter agreements for shipments across various trade routes.
- Develop and disseminate voyage instructions while managing all related formalities.
- Collaborate with the fuel procurement team to devise, oversee, and execute bunkering plans and strategies.
- Monitor trends in vessel and fleet performance, particularly regarding bunker consumption.
- Collaborate closely with ship's masters to identify and manage potential voyage risks.
- Engage directly with ship owners to ensure vessel performance and safety standards are met.
- Provide guidance and support to port operations for enhanced safety management.
- Facilitate and manage interactions with port and agency representatives.
- Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
- Manage and, if necessary, negotiate operational disputes with ship owners and receivers.
- Drive profitability optimization for each voyage in collaboration with the commercial team, with accountability for P&L and variance management.
- Utilize relevant performance tools to monitor, manage, and report fleet efficiency and performance.
- Cultivate transparent and professional relationships with suppliers.
- Actively participate in enhancing customer knowledge and relationships.
- Conduct post-voyage analysis and reviews to identify areas for improvement.
- Identify process gaps and propose/implement improvement actions.
- Support or lead value generation projects as required.
- Ensure adherence to established policies and uphold compliance with the company’s standards and expectations.
Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Maritime or other related fields.
- Strong knowledge of charter-party and/or previous working experience in a similar position would be an added advantage.
- Good communication skills – spoken and written English.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in IMOS would be an added advantage.
