Staff Engineer - Optics
Responsibilities
- Lead research and development projects to improve overall assembly capabilities, identifying risks and employing tools like DFMEA and PFMEA.
- Create, cost, design, develop, set up, and execute assembly and testing processes to enhance production rates, efficiency, yields, cost-effectiveness, and changeovers using 6 sigma and LEAN techniques.
- Collaborate with design engineering, project management, and customers to coordinate new product development, including testing, integration, process definition, documentation, tooling, capital equipment purchases, and special fixtures, to meet specifications while optimizing production efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance to customers and support technical marketing through publications, patents, and participation in workshops and conferences.
- Coordinate with IPQC and QA teams to ensure ongoing quality enhancement.
- Assess, suggest, acquire, and implement new assembly equipment.
- Provide technical guidance to assembly engineers and technicians, encouraging discussion, recognizing training needs, and offering constructive feedback.
- Offer timely support to maintain efficient assembly operations during pilot and production phases and develop and maintain solution documentation.
- Regularly report project status and progress to the Director of Technology and other stakeholders.
- Undertake any additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
Requirements:
- Minimum Master or PhD in a relevant Engineering or Scientific field and 10 years of optical assembly industry experience.
- Experienced in Design of Experiments, ANOVA testing, and employing 6 and LEAN methodologies.
- Well-versed in Optical Fabrication, Optical Physics, and other technical aspects of the Optical Industry.
- Familiar with optical industry products, supplies, consumables, and testing equipment such as Focometer, Rear Projector, and MTF Tester.
- Proficient in Opto-Mechanical Principles and skilled in Optical and Mechanical Design, utilizing design software like Zemax, Code V, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
- Strong communication and organizational abilities, complemented by effective leadership skills.
- Proficient in analytical problem-solving, meticulous attention to detail, and self-driven, with the capability to work independently.
