Senior Physiotherapist

Reporting to the Head, you will develop and manage oncology rehabilitation services. You will facilitate and enable patients to achieve maximum functional performance, think beyond the physical restoration of the patients and incorporate elements of psychosocial support to facilitate rehabilitation. You will also perform other professional duties associated with the care of the patients and work closely with family members.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with a multi-disciplinary team to assess the physical and functional needs of the patient.
  • Focus on optimizing the patient’s function, reducing pain and disability, increasing conditioning and mobility, and ultimately improving quality of life.
  • Develop individualized pathways of care for assigned patients, taking into consideration the patients’ changing needs and implement appropriate interventions as the condition changes.
  • Support the coping and caregiving skills of both the patient and the family/caregivers.
  • Contribute to palliative and end of life care through maximizing and facilitating:
  1. physical function and optimizing ADLs (e.g. home modifications)
  2. caregiving
  3. leisure and social participation (e.g. community outings)
  • Keep detailed, well-written records and other relevant documentation on patient’s activities and progress for patient evaluation.
  • Create and provide accessible, efficient and seamless service which includes managing and developing his/her own clinical caseload.
  • Develop and implement cancer rehabilitation initiatives related to physical therapy in collaboration with the rehabilitation team, across disciplines and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the promotion of SCS cancer rehabilitation services.
  • Develop, locate and implement oncology specific key performance indicators to demonstrate clinical impact and service performance.
  • Create, plan and deliver oncological education materials for patients.
  • Work effectively by balancing clinical caseload of oncology patients with service development, monitoring and expansion.
  • Assist in training of therapy assistants, junior physiotherapists and physiotherapy students.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum a Diploma in Physiotherapy from an accredited polytechnic or university recognized by the Ministry of Health under the Allied Health Professions Act (AHPC)
  • Full registration with AHPC
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant working experience
  • Keen to work in a rehabilitative centre and palliative based home care environment
  • A compassionate, patient and creative problem solver, is adaptable and flexible in adjusting treatment
  • Able to effectively and empathetically listen, interact and communicate with patients and families from varied background
  • Able to work effectively with doctors, nurses, colleagues and other stakeholders in delivering optimal patient care
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to use statistical packages effectively would be an advantage
  • Effectively bilingual, ability to speak dialect(s) would be an advantage
