You will act as a trusted partner by performing credit reviews, to provide an independent credit risk evaluation of SMBC credit assets in Asia Pacific region. Credit assets include (but not limited to) exposures to Corporates, Structured Real Estate finance, Project Finance, Securitization, Leveraged Buyout (‘LBO’), and Banks / Non-Banks Financial Institutions.
The role provides assurance for the Bank’s credit risk assessment and management quality, as well as appropriateness of risk ratings / Borrower Category as third line of defence.
Responsibilities
- Conduct Off-site credit reviews on an ongoing basis, to assess the appropriateness of risk ratings and classification of Borrower Category for the Bank’s credit assets booked in Asia Pacific, ensuring adherence to internal grading policies.
- To participate as a team member (‘Person in charge’) for assigned On-site credit reviews and / or Thematic review assignments. Focus of these reviews is to assess appropriateness of risk ratings assigned / classification of Borrower Category, adequacy of credit underwriting quality including financial projections, and robustness of credit risk management in line with internal policy requirements.
- Provide value-added recommendations to Business Units (BUs) based on potential issues identified in all credit reviews.
- Follow-up on open issues identified and conduct validation review on remediation actions taken by auditee, in accordance with CRVD recommendations and address BUs’ concerns accordingly.
- Continuously monitor and update CRVD and local branch management on regulatory changes or market conditions for new and emerging risks in the respective audit locations.
- Continuously review and propose improvement to CRVD’s review process to ensure adequacy and efficiency of the controls in place against market practice.
- Participate in department-wide initiatives and perform other duties as assigned by Department Head.
- Travel within APAC region is required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accountancy/Banking, Business Studies/Administration/Management or equivalent is preferred.
- 5-7 years’ experience in the areas of credit risk analysis, credit approval, and / or credit review function. Audit experience would be an added advantage.
- Strong background in credit risk analysis, financial analysis / projections, and experienced with credit rating models for Large Corporate customers. Experience / knowledge in Structured Real Estate finance, Project Finance, Securitization, LBO, Banks / Non-Banks Financial Institutions, natural resources, Islamic Finance would be an added advantage.
- Experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Powerpoint. Added advantage for knowledge / experience in programming applications e.g. Python.
- Good writing and communication skills, with ability to identify and articulate issues / observations.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills .
- Ability to work well in a team as well as contribute individually within stipulated timelines.
