Summary
The Laboratory Quality Controller carries out a range of high complex and varied laboratory tests by
- generating and processing test data
- drafting concept-reports within time, budget and quality requirements
- proposing improvements of research methods and quality systems
- contributing to acquisition activities
- taking on tasks that have been escalated by more junior team members
- Guides and supports more junior team members but people management is not a main task of this position.
- Works with limited supervision.
- Requires secondary vocational education (MBO) plus additional technical education (or equivalent professional and intellectual capacities) and full proficiency in a range of technical processes and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all laboratory tests are carried out in accordance with standard procedures and techniques
- Provide regular inspection on laboratory testing procedures and techniques
- Obtain and provide regular updates on test standards (ASTM, ISO etc)
- Perform evaluation and QC of laboratory test results
- Inform / alert the Laboratory Manager of any discrepancy in results
- Enforce any corrective measures required if discrepancies of results recur
- Ensure the process conforms to customer, statutory and management system requirements
- Conduct any induction courses on new standards, and/or revised versions
- Conduct a quarterly awareness session on standards even if there is no revision
- Create software application templates for data processing
- Train and assess laboratory staff in soil laboratory testing
Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- Relevant experience in soil testing industry, preferably with minimum 3 – 5 years in laboratory QC role
- Strong analytical ability, organisational and time management skills
- Self driven, possess excellent team spirit and good interpersonal skills
- Proficient in MS office applications
