Manager, Freight ( Operations)
The Freight Manager plays a pivotal role as an integral member of the DFS Supply Chain, contributing significantly to the seamless and efficient flow of goods within the organization. DFS Supply Chain oversees a supply chain network across multiple global regions, including the Asia-Pacific (APAC), Europe, the Middle East & Africa (EMEA), North America (NAM), and Oceania.
As the Freight Manager, you will oversee and optimise DFS’s global freight operations. You will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient, secure and cost-effective transportation of merchandize, point-of-sales material, visual merchandising and project materials globally wherever DFS is present. You will manage a freight professional team and collaborate with various stakeholders to meet organizational objectives. This position reports directly to the director of Freight & Logistics, and the successful candidate will have a proven track record of success in freight operations management, especially in commercial and/or retail freight.
Freight Operations
- In Partnership with DFS’s partner 4PL to ensure seamless, timely and optimized freight movements
- Acts as subject matter expert (SME) to handle, guide and / or answer logistics related questions from both internal and external parties
- Maintains strong relationships with the incumbent Freight Forwarders (LSPs)
- Executes regular reviews with LSPs on service quality.
- Creating & maintaining a centralized knowledge database in the forms of SOP or SWI
- Maintains daily overview of exception reports and follow up on shipment/issue updates with individual Freight Coordinators
- Keeps LSPs and 4PL informed of shipment exceptions or any special shipment handling requirements
- Collaborates daily within DFS Logistics community, as well as with various stakeholders on operational matters, such as Warehouse, Shipping & Planning Teams
- Oversees DFS open claims with LSPs and 4PL; Ensure claims are addressed in a timely fashion by LSPs or 4PL (whichever is applicable)
- Partners with 4PL to maintain and deliver reports necessary to protect the robustness of the supply chain, such as: Claim Report, ISF Report, Freight timeliness, Any other applicable reports where necessary
- Undertakes any other tasks or projects as may reasonably be expected within the role of Freight Manager
Controls
- Maintains a Business Continuity Plan
- Maintains appropriate levels of confidentiality
- Review and improve processes with 4PL
- Support Business Development Initiatives & New Store Openings
- Support Global Supply Chain initiatives (Automation, Reverse Logistics, etc)
Develop and lead the Freight team
- Recruit, build and develop a high performing & effective Freight operations
- Provide development opportunities and guidance where necessary
- Conduct annual appraisal meetings, set individual/collective objectives, providing coaching & feedbacks
- Provide day-to-day direction concerning work assignments, overtime requirements and priorities.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Logistics or Supply Chain Management preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant academic area such as Engineering, Accounting, etc. may be substituted
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Freight operations with at least 1 year in a managerial position. Preferably with Freight Forwarding companies experienced with commercial freight
- Fluency in English
- In-depth knowledge of transportation procurement, industry regulations, and market dynamics.
- Proficient in MS computer applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) is a must
