Purpose of the Job;
As a Student Care Coach, you will play a crucial role in providing care, guidance, and support to students outside of their school hours. You will create a safe and nurturing environment that provides holistic care and support to students, encompassing not only their academic growth but also their well-being and personal development.
Key responsibility areas
Mentoring and Guidance
- Provide emotional support, guidance, and mentorship to students to help them navigate academic and personal challenges
- Listen to students’ concerns and offer a safe space for them to express their feelings. Provide counselling or refer them to appropriate professionals when necessary.
Student Support
- Supervise and assist students with their daily routines, including meal times, homework, and recreational activities.
- Provide academic guidance and tutoring to students as needed.
- Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that promotes students' social and emotional development.
Academic Assistance
- Offer guidance and support to students completing their homework assignments.
- Provide explanations and help students understand concepts across various subjects.
- Encourage students to develop effective study habits and time management skills.
- Monitor and track students’ progress, providing feedback and suggesting strategies for improvement.
Life Skills Development
- Teach life skills, such as problem-solving, communication and decision-making, to help students become more independent and resilient.
Enrichment Activities
- Plan and organize engaging and age-appropriate enrichment activities, games, and projects.
- Create a diverse range of activities that cater to different interests and learning styles.
- Encourage active participation and cooperation among students.
Behavior, Safety and Well-being Management
- Maintain discipline and enforce rules in a fair and consistent manner.
- Address behavioral issues sensitively and promote good conduct among students and in accordance with the organization's policies.
- Communicate behavioral concerns with parents/guardians and work together to implement solutions.
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of students at all times.
- Administer basic first aid when necessary and seek appropriate medical attention.
- Collaborate with colleagues to maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free environment.
Conflict Resolution
- Mediate conflicts among students and help them develop conflict resolution skills.
- Promote a culture of respect, tolerance, and inclusivity within the student community.
Documentation
- Keep records of student progress, accidents, behavioral incidents and interventions.
- Prepare reports for SCC manager and parents where necessary.
Professional Development
- Stay updated on best practices in student mentoring and support through training and professional development opportunities.
- Stay up-to-date with curriculum changes, teaching methodologies and educational trends to provide the most effective academic support
Communication
- Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents/guardians regarding students' progress and behavior.
- Document and update records of student activities, achievements, and incidents.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute insights to improve the student care program.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 5 GCE ‘O’ level including English language, ‘A’ level or Diploma in a relevant discipline.
- Possess training in children’s services or training related to school-age children.
- At least 3-5 years of work experience in student care or related field.
- Passion for supporting children's holistic development, including academic, social, and emotional growth.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to manage diverse personalities and situations.
- Knowledge of child development principles, behaviour management techniques, and safety protocols.
- Familiarity with Singapore's student care regulations and guidelines.
- First Aid and CPR certification (preferred).
