The incumbent will be responsible for cultivating prospective donors for gifts towards the progress of higher education, research and community building at the College.
He/She will have to work closely with the Vice Dean (Development) and proactively engage internal stakeholders (colleagues, faculty and volunteers) closely on a regular basis to understand industry and prospective donor requirements, in order to advance the philanthropic mission of the College.
The typical candidate is driven to contribute skills towards community building and has experience in business development and in individual/corporate solutions selling.
The responsibilities of this role are:
- Build strong working relationships with faculty colleagues to develop new funding propositions of the College.
- Align various academic, research and sponsorship offerings from the College to the needs of prospective donors, to drive new gift opportunities.
- Participate in and support Vice Dean (Development) in managing conversations on new gift opportunities between stakeholders within the College and University, as well as prospective donors, which includes high net worth individuals, corporations and foundations.
- Create articulate and compelling proposals and collaterals across various engagement platforms to attract prospective donors to give to various philanthropic causes at the College.
- Create engagement platforms to steward donors or deepen relationships with prospective donors.
- Report progress to management on the status of cultivating prospective donors.
- Accurately maintain information on the progress of assigned gift cases in the central database.
- Provide administrative and operational support for advancing gift purposes where required.
The ideal candidate will need to have the following qualities and experience:
- Degree from a recognised university.
- Approximately 10 years’ progressive track record in business development, individual-solutions selling or key client-portfolio development.
- Strategic selling mindset with proven ability to cultivate high net worth clientele and complex solutions that require engagement and alignment of multiple stakeholders, typically roles in strategy, new product introduction or multi-agency task groups.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills in a group and individual setting, with the ability to negotiate and work with all levels within the University.
- Strong intellectual curiosity for communicating to prospects about the various causes and impact of thought leaders at the College.
- High energy, enthusiastic personality and a strong work ethic as an individual contributor and collaborative team player, requiring minimum supervision.
- Demonstrated discretion in preparing, disclosing and handling information of a confidential and sensitive nature.
