Job Role and Responsibilities:
As an Assistant Sports Editor, you will be required to work with the sports team to curate and manage content for online, the newspaper and social media.
The job requires you to work closely with the reporters on the team to conceptualise and shape stories (news, features, interactives) for the section.
You will also identify foreign wires stories for the sports section and pages, and work with a team of copytasters, designers and sub-editors to curate content for both online and the newspaper. This will include story packages and interactives on foreign and Singapore sports.
A keen interest and knowledge in sport, both local and foreign, is required and experience in the sports industry will be a plus. The successful candidate should have the ability to spot a good story and work with the team to deliver it to our readers/viewers via the different platforms.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 5 years in journalism.
- Should have several years' experience in reporting and editing duties.
- Excellent command of English and strong writing skills.
- Willingness to work on shifts, weekends and/or public holidays where needed as the role involves working on pages till offstone.
- You must be able to head and work as a team, work with minimal supervision
- Demonstrate ability to assess, assign and turn around copy for online and print
- Plan ahead in developing follow-ups and features/packages
- Deal with the 'visual' demands of storytelling via graphics, photos and videos
