About the role
The Analytics Intern will support the Commercial Analysis team in the delivery of the Data Analytics Project. The intern will also have the opportunity to gain and apply knowledge of fundamental analysis in oil trading,
As part of the Data Analytics project, the analysis team has completed the ingestion of data sources into the Snowflake datalake. The Analytics Intern will have the opportunity to collaborate with the commercial analysts, developers, data scientists and data engineers to migrate and automate BAU processes from excel to Snowflake/Dataiku, build out machine learning/analytical models and visualization dashboards.
The Analytics Intern will also assist the Commercial Analysts with the production of regular reports, data collection, data cleaning and ad-hoc analysis involving any form of market intelligence and data.
Key responsibilities
• Migration of data sources from excel to snowflake. This involves rebuilding excel spreadsheets with updated queries and building new models and flows in dataiku. The intern will also have the opportunity to work with data scientists and commercial analysts on machine-learning/forecasting models for supply-demand balances.
• Collaborate with commercial analysts and data engineers on coding and data modelling requirements to reconcile refinery outage and ship tracking data from multiple sources (identify duplicates/conflicts and resolve conflicts).
• Utilization of data visualisation tools (e.g. PowerBI) to build out insights from snowflake datalake.
• Research and develop quantitative models and algorithms.
• Produce regular reports on country statistics, ship tracking, vessel tonnage, refinery outages, price charts and support the publication of the weekly market outlook report. In the process of migration, it may involve continuing some BAU excel processes.
• Collaborate with analysts and traders in any relevant analysis involving any form of market intelligence and data.
Skills & experience
• Experience in automation and process improvement is desirable
• Keen interest in understanding the dynamics of oil trading and refining
• Sound knowledge of visualisation tools (e.g PowerBI) will be an advantage
• Ability to code in Python / SQL
• Ability to code in VBA / R will be an advantage
• Knowledge of Dataiku and Snowflake will be an advantage
• Self-starter with a drive for results and able to work independently
• Excellent communication skills with an ability to engage stakeholders
