Job Description: Procurement Manager


We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Procurement Manager to support our client's procurement function in a food business manufacturing environment.


The Procurement Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of procurement, including sourcing, vendor management, contract negotiation, and inventory control.


The ideal candidate will have a strong background in procurement within the food industry, excellent negotiation skills, and a proven ability to optimize costs while maintaining high-quality standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Sourcing:Develop and implement procurement strategies to ensure the timely and cost-effective sourcing of raw materials, ingredients, packaging materials, and other supplies required for production.
    Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, conduct negotiations, and establish favorable terms and contracts to secure high-quality and cost-efficient materials.
  • Vendor Management:Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives.
    Monitor vendor performance, including delivery timeliness, product quality, and compliance with contractual agreements.
    Resolve any supplier-related issues promptly and effectively to minimize disruptions to production processes.
  • Contract Negotiation:Negotiate favorable terms and conditions with suppliers, including pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and quality standards.
    Review and finalize contracts, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as company policies and standards.
  • Inventory Control:Develop and implement inventory management strategies to optimize inventory levels while minimizing carrying costs and stockouts.
    Monitor inventory levels, track usage patterns, and forecast demand to ensure adequate stock availability to support production requirements.
  • Cost Optimization:Continuously evaluate procurement processes and practices to identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.
    Implement cost-saving initiatives, negotiate volume discounts, and explore alternative sourcing options to maximize cost efficiencies without compromising quality.
  • Quality Assurance:Collaborate with quality assurance and production teams to ensure that procured materials meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
    Conduct regular quality audits of suppliers and perform supplier qualification assessments to ensure adherence to quality specifications.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards governing procurement activities, including food safety and traceability requirements.
    Identify and mitigate procurement-related risks, such as supply chain disruptions, market volatility, and geopolitical factors, through proactive risk management strategies.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field. Master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., CSCP, CPSM) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement, with at least 2 years in a managerial role within the food manufacturing industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully sourcing and procuring raw materials, ingredients, and packaging materials for food production.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience in contract negotiation and vendor management.
  • Solid understanding of inventory management principles, supply chain dynamics, and procurement best practices.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations, quality standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficiency in procurement software (SAP) and tools, as well as Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
