Senior Business Development Manager, Asia

To provide high quality and senior level BD support to our market-leading Asia Energy & Infrastructure practice working in close conjunction with BD colleagues in the Asia-Pacific region.


The successful candidate will work closely with the rest of the BD team to provide sophisticated and proactive cross-practice assistance to the Energy & Infrastrcture practice and sector and will be expected to play a leading advisory role for that practice.


Responsibilities

Management and leadership:

The successful candidate will assume a leadership position within the Asia BD team.

  • Specific duties will include: Management of Energy & Infrastructure practice BD budgets within Asia.

Business planning and implementation:

  • Play a leading role in the formulation and implementation of business development plans, particularly for the Energy & Infrastructure practice
  • Help develop a cross-practice, client-oriented approach to pursuits and new business, working in conjunction with relevant members of the global BD team and other key stakeholders
  • Help drive firm-wide or regional BD initiatives within the Energy & Infrastructure sector and practice as appropriate

Pitches, proposals and tender submissions:

  • Ensure best practice in preparation of pitches and proposals
  • Work with Global and Regional Energy & Infrastructure BD and sector teams on pitch strategy and approach for strategic pursuits
  • Help develop strong key selling messages for the sector and specific practice teams, to be deployed consistently in pitches and proposals

Client development:

  • Support CRMs of global strategic Energy & Infrastructure clients in efforts to target opportunities for those clients in Asia
  • Assume CRM responsibility for 2-3 key regional Energy & Infrastructure clients
  • Support the firm's global Client Listening programme, including conducting face-to-face client reviews as appropriate

Reputation, brand and profile:

  • Work with the Asia Communications team where required in relation to Asia PR opportunities in the Energy & Infrastructure sector
  • Work with the BD teams in preparation of legal directory and award submissions for the Energy & Infrastructure practice as required

Management of information and projects:

  • Contribute ideas to improving processes and systems within the team and take responsibility for such projects as appropriate

Relationship building and connection:

  • Develop strong relationships with the partners and lawyers across Asia involved in the Energy & Infrastructure practice and sector
  • Develop strong relationships across the Asia and wider global BD team, in order that you can connect the Energy & Infrastructure sector with the wider network
  • Play an active part in mentoring and supporting junior members of the BD team in in Asia

Requirements

  • Appropriate undergraduate/postgraduate degree qualification(s)
  • At least eight years' experience working in a BD role in a law firm or other professional services environment.
  • Previous experience within a similar Marketing & Business Development Manager role with a focus on Energy & Infrastructure, within the legal sector would be desirable and help ensure success is achieved within this role
  • Knowledge of the Asian legal market desirable but not essential
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a broader team
  • Confidence in dealing with senior stakeholders
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise and manage workload under pressure
  • High degree of attention to detail
  • Proven ability to establish professional credibility
  • Excellent service delivery skills and high level of responsiveness
