What will you do


The Associate Director Head of Medical Affairs, Metro Asia is responsible for providing medical leadership for the Medical Affairs team with accountability for enabling the development and execution of medical strategy, policies and associated initiatives/ plans for the Metro Asia cluster. This role will have approx. 3-5 direct reports.

This individual will serve as the Medical Affairs lead for Metro Asia serving on the Metro Asia Leadership Team, Regional Medical & Clinical Sciences Leadership Team and relevant regional functional squads as required. As a member of the Regional Medical and Clinical Sciences leadership team, they will provide functional and organizational leadership on all Metro Asia specific topics ensuring support, commitment and visibility from Senior Stakeholders for optimal resource allocation, initiative prioritization and investment choices.

This leader will bring credible medical/scientific perspective on all business relevant issues while operating with an executional excellence mindset. This medical leader will work very closely with cross- functional cluster leads and cross-geographical partners including marketing, sales, regulatory affairs, legal, safety, quality and operations. He/She will provide strategic medical input into Metro Asia specific topics including the launch of new product/commercial innovation, life cycle management of current business and policy issues as needed. He/She will also serve as the medical leader/ point of contact for the Metro Asia business ensuring there is strong alignment with the Safety Organization on all relevant safety topics for the portfolio.

He/she will be expected to have responsibility for prioritization of work and resources. It is essential that this individual has the capability and leadership skills to develop and orchestrate programs in the Metro Asia cluster that provide patients/consumers and healthcare providers with meaningful products, helps the company drive growth, continually enhance executional excellence and compliance as well as support the growth of functional capabilities and culture of the Metro Asia MA organization.


Roles and Responsibilities:

Team Leadership

  • Line management of the Metro Asia Franchise Medical Affairs team.
  • Create a strong development culture, ensuring personal development plans are in place and their delivery facilitated, and that succession planning is undertaken.
  • Coach and where necessary provide direct guidance to/share expertise with other team members to ensure that their contributions are maximized.
  • Work with APAC Medical Head to ensure appropriate resources available to deliver the business objectives.
  • Development and retention of talented, capable and committed staff

Regulatory Affairs Partnership

  • Work closely with Metro Asia Regulatory Affairs colleagues to ensure data provided to regulatory agencies and external authorities is accurate, and that our products are properly represented.
  • Collaborate with regional franchise RA and MA in support of preparation of local medical documentation for registration dossiers.
  • Contribute to the development as appropriate.
  • Meet with regulators and external agencies when requested to understand their needs and provide medical expertise in support of our products.
  • Assess / predict changes in medical requirements and recognize the potential impact and implications.

KOL Development / Thought Leadership

  • Oversee the development of professional advocacy programs by the Metro Asia MA team in conjunction with professional marketing.
  • Support and enable the team in gaining opinion leader endorsement to support products and/or claims.
  • Oversee coordination of symposia/ congress plans across the cluster.
  • Publication planning.

Marketing/Brand team support

  • Partner with commercial in adapting and activating cross-franchise claims, Science That Sells and communications.
  • Oversee assessment of proposed Claims/Advertising for medical/clinical accuracy and balance in line with Metro Asia and country regulations.
  • Manage development and maintenance of medical affairs support for claims/advertising.
  • Identifies potential threats to claims and inputs into strategies to maintain/ defend claims in conjunction with global medical affairs.
  • Provides scientific evidence to affiliates for defense of claims against competitive threat.
  • Liaise with local commercial stakeholders to monitor competitor activities (new products, claims, pipeline developments, providing opinion) and assisting affiliates compile competitive challenges.

Training oversight

  • Oversee the development of training courses & materials on clinical / medical / scientific aspects of new products or claims.

  • Provide support documentation for Metro Asia
  • Oversee training new starters in their team and new category members in the Metro Asia business on therapeutic areas when appropriate.

What we are looking for

  • MD or PhD in Biological Sciences.
  • Approx 10 years healthcare/ pharmaceutical industry, functional relevant experience
