Production managers ensure that manufacturing processes run reliably and efficiently.
Responsibilities of the job include:
• Planning and organising production schedules;
• Assessing project and resource requirements ;
• Estimating, negotiating and agreeing budgets and timescales with clients and managers ;
• Ensuring that health and safety regulations are met;
• Determining quality control standards;
• Overseeing production processes;
• Renegotiating timescales or schedules as necessary ;
• Selecting, ordering and purchasing materials;
• Organising the repair and routine maintenance of production equipment;
• Supervising and managing the work of junior staff;
• Motivating, supporting and providing guidance to production staff;
• Organising relevant training sessions;
• Communicating regularly with upper management regarding problems or issues impacting production.
Requirements of Production Managers include the following:
• Minimum 10 years of prior production experience
• Good knowledge of manufacturing processes
• Strong project management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to coach and motivate employees
• Proven record in training employees about safety and production
• Strong working knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations
