Investor Engagement Specialist

The Good Protein Network Limited

Unlock affordable financing to scale up alternative proteins and create a sustainable, healthy and just food system

The Good Food Institute (GFI) is at the forefront of the movement to transform meat, eggs, and dairy production to solve some of the world’s biggest problems. As part of an international network of nonprofit think tanks working to make the global food system better for the planet, people, and animals, GFI’s teams focus on making plant-based, fermentation-enabled, and cultivated proteins delicious, affordable, and accessible. Our work is powered by philanthropy.

GFI APAC covers the APAC region and is headquartered in Singapore. We are at an exciting stage in our growth, and are looking for an Investor Engagement Specialist to join our team.

How You Will Make a Difference

The Investor Engagement Specialist will play an indispensable role in GFI APAC’s growing Corporate Engagement (CE) team and our efforts to drive affordability as a key unlock for sector success. At this critical juncture for the alternative protein industry, you will use your investment expertise and capabilities to help the sector identify and mobilise affordable sources of financing and de-risk scale-up to accelerate the commercialisation of alternative proteins. You will be responsible for:

  • Strategy-setting: Leading the development and execution of a strategy for the GFI APAC team that enables us to catalyse more investment into the sector, which will span both private sector investment as well as opportunities to use blended finance to leverage public and philanthropic capital to de-risk sector investments.
  • Spearheading initiatives to close funding gaps: Identifying, developing and implementing high-impact projects and initiatives that will bring new affordable financing solutions to the sector, including building stakeholder coalitions to create, fund, and execute projects where appropriate.
  • Overseeing and managing investor relationships: Conducting outreach to private investors (e.g. pension funds, family offices) and concessional capital providers (e.g. government agencies, sovereign wealth funds, development finance institutions, philanthropic organisations) to educate them about investment opportunities in alternative proteins, and building these relationships as our primary point of contact.
  • Building up market-leading expertise on how to finance sector scale-up: Developing a deep understanding of the challenges and pathways for accessing fit-for-purpose capital across the scale-up pipeline for alternative proteins to bolster GFI’s position as a thought leader on this topic, honed from your knowledge from the industry as well as other industries with similar dynamics and scaling trajectories.
  • Developing actionable resources for the investment community: Analysing market and investment data, creating investment-related resources, and maintaining a repository of up-to-date information on investment trends, gaps, and opportunities.
  • Representing GFI APAC at industry conferences and events: Giving GFI presentations, leading and participating in other activities such as roundtables and panels, and educating potential investors about opportunities in alternative proteins.
  • Supporting other GFI teams and external stakeholders on investment-related knowledge and tasks: Working with other GFI teams and engaging with external stakeholders to lend your investment expertise, such as by helping to prepare for meetings and presentations, and supporting startups seeking investment advice.
  • Performing other tasks as assigned as a member of our small, nimble team.

Who We’re Looking For

The Investor Engagement Specialist must:

  • Have 5+ years of relevant investing and/or financing experience, including relevant infrastructure development experience or expertise, preferably with a focus on financing or otherwise investing in food, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, or other manufacturing-intensive industries (e.g., renewable energy, electric vehicles).
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience creating presentations, writing reports, and succinctly communicating actionable insights to stakeholders.
  • Have a strong understanding of the APAC investment landscape, including an understanding of the “who’s who” in the regional investment community, and familiarity with the most important trends affecting future investment themes.
  • Have excellent organisational skills.
  • Be extremely self-motivated and a self-starter who excels at working independently and taking charge of your own learning and development.
  • Comfort working remotely and in a rapidly changing sector.
  • Strong support and intellectual curiosity for GFI’s philosophy and mission; with demonstrated interest in alternative proteins, food security, public health, sustainability, and/or animal welfare.

Ideally, but not required:

  • Experience structuring or accessing public-private partnerships and related funding.
  • The ability to speak other regional languages.

We want the best people and we don’t want biases holding us back. We strongly encourage people of every color, orientation, age, gender, origin, and ability to apply. Because we value a diverse workplace, we prioritize an inclusive climate absent of discrimination and harassment during the application process and after you join the team.

Research indicates that men tend to apply for jobs when they meet just 60% of the criteria, while women and other marginalized groups only apply if they are a 100% match. If you are passionate about GFI’s mission and think you have what it takes to be successful in this role even if you don’t check all the boxes, please apply. We’d appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.
