Responsibilities
- Scrutinize and review major investments and legal risk containment in industrial park , logistics and commercial and residential property projects such as mergers, acquisitions and corporate restructuring, as well as for all contracting requirements for day-to-day business.
- Liaise with business units on governance and compliance related matters in respect of frameworks and policies initiated by the Group Legal and Group Ethics & Compliance function and other Group functions (including anti-bribery/corruption) supporting the rollout of these policies (including assistance with training) and implement and monitor compliance on such policies and frameworks.
- Assess the impact of new/amended regulations on the business and present to the managements appropriate steps that may be taken in countering the impact and/meeting legal requirements.
- Participate actively in front line negotiations and interface with customers, business partners, suppliers, contractors etc.
- Work with HQ teams i.e. Legal, Finance, Business Development, Procurement and other corporate services units in identifying, mitigating and managing legal and compliance risks on activities, businesses and projects.
- Understanding the commercial objectives, strategy, pressure points of the business, reasonable operational knowledge with a view to identifying and assessing the risks and legal issues involved, and effectively communicating this to the business unit or project team to enable them to make well-informed business decisions.
- Liaising with external counsel, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure the Company's legal and regulatory obligations are met.
- Handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries and (where necessary) representing the Company in the litigation and other legal procedures.
- Provide legal support and advice to senior management and all internal stakeholders on legal and compliance matters.
- Lead or support other projects and tasks as may be required from time to time.
Requirements
- Bachelor Degree in Laws (or equivalent) and admitted as a lawyer in (i) Singapore, (ii) Indonesia or (iii) Peoples’ Republic of China (PRC) / qualified to practice Singapore, Indonesian or PRC law.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant legal working experience.
- Experience working in real estate industry on cross border matters and working with an international multi-national company would be an advantage.
- If not qualified in these jurisdictions, experience with projects in Indonesia and China , and/or ability to speak Bahasa Indonesia or Mandarin would be an advantage.
- Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken).
- Good knowledge of commercial law especially land law, the law on enterprises, the law on investment. Knowledge and experience with cross border transactions would be an advantage.
- Experience with corporate structuring in a property business would be an advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT).
- Strong problem solving, organizational and analytical skills.
- Pro-active, possess utmost integrity and honesty, have a flair for legal work.
- Ability to work independently and take on problems which have no precedent or clear options available.
- Willing to travel when required.
