The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments and control strategies will be developed.
This position is for a full-time Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow with a strong background in Cell Biology, Genomics and Microbiology/Immunology to work in a dynamic research team focused on bat biology. The candidate is expected to play a critical role in generating and fostering a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research environment by performing a variety of research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate. The main duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to the following: -
- Independently carry out the design and execution of high precision in vitro and in vivo experiments related to pathogenesis and host immune response of influenza or other respiratory pathogens.
- Write and review research papers, present research outcomes, conceptualize new ideas and develop plans for research that could have a considerable influence and impact on the relevant field.
- Provide support for external grant and protocol development, study design and management of research activities.
- Demonstrate and present research output.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to undergraduate / medical students and research assistants.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.
Job Requirements
- PhD in Cell Biology, Genomics, Microbiology, Immunology, Biotechnology or a related biomedical field.
- Possess a strong background in molecular and cell biology.
- Prior work experience in bat biology is preferred.
- Skills in proteomics or metabolomics would be advantageous.
- Possess excellent quantitative, analytical and organisational skills.
- A strong team player who is open-minded, energetic, highly motivated and can work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team and diverse workforce.
