Assistant Principal (Sixth Form Curriculum)

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly qualified and committed Assistant Principal (Sixth Form Curriculum), with an outstanding track record of success, from August 2024. The successful applicant will lead the pastoral provision for our sixth form students, working with a Deputy Head of Sixth Form to guide and oversee the sixth form tutor team. This is a unique opportunity to join a leading international school as it enters an exciting new phase of development. We have just started our fourth year of operation, and enrollment is already approaching 1300 students.


General Responsibilities

  1. Play a full part in the life of the School, supporting its distinctive aims and ethos, and be prepared to actively participate and contribute to the community activities that exist within the School.
  2. Maintain familiarity with the School’s Guiding Statements, striving to embody and promote them at all times.
  3. Work effectively as part of a subject and pastoral team.
  4. Maintain high levels of professionalism and conduct, acting as a positive role model for students.
  5. Carry out supervision duties as per published duty rotas.
  6. Continue own professional development in relevant areas, including subject knowledge, pedagogy and others related to career and personal development goals.
  7. Attend assemblies, staff meetings and training sessions as per published calendars.
  8. Engage actively in the appraisal process.
  9. Contribute to the preparation and implementation of academic and pastoral development plans, policy and practice.
  10. Treat all students with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher’s professional position.
  11. Abide by the expectations laid out in the Academic Staff Handbook and the Staff Code of Conduct.
  12. Maintain familiarity with, and follow, all school policies.

As an Assistant Principal (Pastoral)

  1. Developing and maintaining a culture of high expectations for oneself and others.
  2. Keeping abreast of developments in educational research and best practice, relevant to the specific responsibilities of the role, and advising the Pastoral Leadership Team of their relevance and potential impact on the school.
  3. Support the Vice-Principal (Pastoral), as requested, in all aspects of the admissions process
  4. Assist with the recruitment and appraisal of staff when required
  5. Support the Vice-Principal (Pastoral) with delegated projects in line with the position on the Senior School Management Team (SSMT).

As the Head of Sixth Form

  1. Overseeing the safeguarding, well-being and conduct of Sixth Form students
  2. Ensuring that the pastoral care available to each student in the Sixth Form is of the highest quality, is supportive, innovative and responsive to the needs of students
  3. Monitoring and tracking the progress of individual students, co-ordinating interventions where necessary, and taking appropriate action to ensure that all students make excellent progress in all areas
  4. Liaising with the Individual Needs department to ensure adequate provision for Sixth Form students.
  5. Carry out annual analysis of both mock and actual IBDP exam results (In collaboration with the DP Coordinator) and develop strategies for student improvement as appropriate and necessary
  6. Lead the team of Sixth Form tutors to ensure their work is consistently of the highest professional standard in providing individual care and support to students across all areas of the school
  7. Chair and lead Sixth Form tutor meetings (including the preparation of agenda and record of meetings)
  8. Ensure that tutors are overseeing and monitoring students’ co-curricular participation
  9. Organise and lead Sixth Form form assemblies
  10. Oversight and development of the Sixth Form PSE programme; working with the Assistant Principal (Pastoral) and other Heads of School to ensure that the curriculum is innovative and reflects the needs of the relevant students.
  11. Delivering PSE as required
  12. Design, implement, monitor and evaluate the Sixth Form Development Plan, ensuring that it is aligned with the school’s overall development priorities and ethos
  13. Assisting and supporting the Vice-Principal (Pastoral) in the process of development planning and the formulation of the Senior School pastoral strategy, specifically in relation to the Sixth Form.
  14. G10/11 Transition Programme.
  15. Lead the Sixth Form induction programme at the start of each academic year
  16. Liaising with the Assistant Principal (Pastoral) with regards to the ongoing transition and induction of new students into the Sixth Form.
  17. Ensure a successful transition of students from Sixth Form to Higher Education.
  18. Ensuring effective communication systems with parents are developed, with particular regard to the welfare, conduct and progress of Sixth Form students.
  19. Managing the Sixth Form Calendar, including collaboration with key colleagues and stakeholders.
  20. Preparing budget proposals and efficiently managing allocated budgets.
  21. In consultation with students and colleagues, oversee the organisation of Sixth Form specific social activities.
  22. Organise events and strategies which promote a spirit of “identity” and social inclusion, (including the support & co-ordination of relevant contributions to charity and community service initiatives)

Academic

  1. Teach allocated lessons, and act as a role model for other colleagues
  2. Promote and deliver the NLCS academic ethos through classroom practice
  3. Be an active and supportive member of the academic department allocated to
  4. Fully support and engage with the school’s academic enrichment programme

Enrichment

  1. Support the School’s academic enrichment programme by contributing to the McCabe Lecture series.
  2. Attend School events and activities as directed by the Principal and/or Vice Principal (Pastoral) and voluntarily support events such as trips, Arts Festival events, sports fixtures (home and away) and musical performances by students, after school and at weekends.
  3. Deliver co-curricular activities in line with School policy.
  4. Support the Senior School House Competition Coordinator by attending events and encouraging student participation.
