Job Summary: This position plans, directs, coordinates and monitors assigned engineering projects involving the design modification, testing and evaluation of complex systems with integrated hardware, mechanica, optical and software components and Integrated Logistics Support. The incumbent is responsible for the technical performance, schedule and budgets of assigned projects. This position typically works under limited supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides overall technical leadership and management of assigned project and personnel
Responsible for the technical performance, schedule and budgets of assigned projects
Plans, assigns, directs and monitors project’s engineering tasks
Provides technical input to proposal plans and costings
Ensures “design to cost” targets are met
Reviews and approves project documentation
Builds, assigns, guides and monitors high performance engineering teams.
Ensures engineering tasks are compliant to defined program requirements, export compliance regulations accepted engineering practices and local company standards
Ensures initial specification and ongoing elaboration/capture of the specification are sufficient for project and company needs
Ensures that the test plan is adequate to ensure delivery of a quality product and that testing is conducted before release
Acts as liaison between different engineering disciplines, engineering support functions, manufacturing, program management personnel and the customer
Ensures transition to production, maintainability and life cycle cost are considered adequately during design
Guides and mentors Project Engineers
Plays a leading role in developing the Project Engineering capability of the company.
As appropriate, assists the program manager with schedule status, project costs and concerns, areas of risk, technical issues, customer meetings and program review attendance
Proactively support continuous improvement of engineering processes
Leadership
Provides leadership to the team, driving a culture of accountability, managing performance (via informal and formal methods) and ensuring standards are at a high level
Mentors, trains, and develops staff ensuring team has all necessary skills and practice with internal or external training and other methods
Conducts administrative processes including timesheets and HRIS updates
Conducts performance reviews and assists with Individual Development Plans to enable individual and team growth
Drives a process of continuous improvement to ensure processes and standards are in line with best practice and used consistently across the team.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Qualifications
Essential:
Tertiary qualification in the field of engineering, computer science, information systems, or other relevant technical discipline
Desirable:
Project management qualifications such as PMP or Prince 2
Skills/Experience/Knowledge:
Essential:
10 years’ experience in relevant engineering design with at least 3 years’ experience in leading teams and managing engineering personnel.
Familiarity with industry standard project management principles
Desirable:
Formal training and at least 3 years’ experience in project management.
