It is home to over 200 talented engineers, scientists and technicians designing, developing, and testing advanced integrated manufacturing technologies across Dyson’s product portfolio.


About the role

As the Global Head of Tooling Design Engineering for Manufacturing Engineering reporting to the Global Manufacturing Engineering Director, you will lead the Dyson tooling team to conceive, design, analyse, execute, and commission custom assembly tooling across all categories to deliver unique and complex programs.

Coverage of countries includes Singapore, Malaysia, China, Philippines, and Mexico.

Main accountabilities:

  • Manage, mentor and supervise the Global Tooling Design Engineering department
  • Collaborate closely with Head of Design Engineering to provide tooling strategy to ensure capability of Dyson product designs.
  • Lead cross category tooling design engineering teams and administration functions to design high grade tools and to manage our tool vendors to delivery schedule and with quality
  • Direct and lead reviews for new tooling vendor selection with our Commercial Team to ensure that the vendor has both the capacity and capability for a given design.
  • Authorise new tool DFM and General Assembly drawings (robust tools, cooling, injection, ejection, Type of steel to be used and the steel conditions, movements etc)
  • Govern reviews conducted by Tooling Programme Managers on the tool design recommendation by our tool vendors in terms of size, cavity quantity, cycle time estimates and tool cost estimates.
  • Strategise on tool repair and refurbishment to cater for a variety of requests as made by our prime contractors.
  • Ensure that Dyson tooling assets are maintained, and the asset lists are accurate and up to date in terms of description and locations.
  • Support all tool maintenance schedules for the entire suite of Dyson tools.
  • Govern and audit of toolmakers adherence to the tooling Manual for good working practices.
  • Intepret the strategy and align/prioritise across roadmap(s) within Manufacturing Function to business needs with the leadership.
  • Lead to improve organizational effectiveness on our Journey to Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering to work with an extended team to provide process, tools, methods, business transformation practices and training across the ME organization.

About you

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in tooling design management working with large teams on a global scale.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • Manufacturing Engineering experience in process and tool requirement analysis, design, and qualification of complete tools suite.
  • Experience in product manufacturing processes maintaining large scale PFMEA and DFA for example.
  • Excellent project management capabilities and knowledge of fundamental PM principles (i.e. estimating and planning, risk management, status reporting, budget tracking, benefits analysis, stakeholder management and communication, resource management).
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal); fluent in spoken and written English
  • Independent and reliable, able to work with others within and across Manufacturing teams, to ensure that the whole project team succeeds in its goals.
  • Ability to influence a change or improvement and able to make things happen without the control over the implementation.
  • Proven people skills to ensure the successful delivery of performance through others.
  • Proven ability to orchestrate work across a few different projects and platforms simultaneously.
  • Deep knowledge of Dyson’s product development framework.
  • Proven ability to work globally - across countries, time zones and cultures.
  • Strong desire to continuously transform and improve our process and methods.
  • A role model collaborator.
