About the role

Singapore's premier business daily, The Business Times, is looking for a talented, driven and digitally-savvy candidate to oversee our hourly and daily coverage of market-moving developments across a range of business and financial news topics, cutting across different companies, sectors and geographies.

The ideal candidate should have a track record in business journalism and experience in leading a group of reporters, including assigning and editing copy across a wide range of topics, story types and formats.

Key responsibilities:

  • Identify critical news developments and trending stories that are relevant to BT’s audience.
  • Manage a team of reporters and edit their stories, where necessary, to ensure the content is accurate, engaging, comprehensive, of high quality and published in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with the News Editor and Deputy News Editors on story development and evergreen content production. You may be required to make quick editorial decisions.
  • Ensure that all content is optimised for SEO and social media.
  • Collaborate with reporters and other members of the editorial team to ensure that all stories are effectively curated, edited and promoted.
  • Collaborate with other teams, such as design and development, to ensure that all content is visually appealing, user-friendly, and optimised for different platforms.

Requirements:

  • Relevant degree in Communications, New Media, Business, Finance, Journalism or relevant fields.
  • At least five years’ experience in business or financial writing or relevant working experience.
  • Have a sharp news sense with the ability to identify information gaps, edit and produce quality stories under tight deadlines.
  • A good understanding of content management systems and digital best practices.
  • Previous experience of working in a newsroom is a plus.
  • Experience in leading a team is preferred.
