The Children and Youth Group (CYG) in The Salvation Army Singapore serves hundreds of vulnerable children and youth yearly. In line with our vision to provide a continuum of care to uplift those in need, our services span from preventive services, foster care and residential services to reunification support services for vulnerable children returning to their natural families after being removed due to safety concerns. RESPONSIBILITIES
About the job
To provide better support for children reunifying to their natural families after staying in foster care or children's homes as well as preventing children from child protection risks, we started Befrienders for Families (BFF) last year. BFF aims to provide improve child outcomes when they are with their natural families. We work with families with child protection risks and seek to grow and enable befrienders to help such families and children.We are looking for an Asst Senior Social Worker (ASSW) and a Social Worker (SW) to be part of our BFF team.
You will be key in facilitating change and improving lives of our vulnerable children and youth and their families. You will also be instrumental in growing and implementing the BFF programme. You will need to (i) provide excellent professional services to assess, plan and execute interventions for clients through volunteers; (ii) provide supervision to ensure quality of services provided (iii) grow and support our volunteer pool; (iii) ensure safety of the vulnerable children, their families, volunteers and staff through good risk assessment and management; (iv) develop and evaluate the programme.
The Assistant Senior Social Worker will support in providing clinical supervision for youth workers and other groups of staff when needed.
We are looking for someone with a Can Do spirit who is creative in problem solving and with a passion for making a difference vulnerable children and families. You will also need to be experienced in working with clients with child protection risks and have that special ability to connect and inspire volunteers.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide case management to support cases allocated to you, including assessment, case planning, intervention and review.
- Coordinate and facilitate internal case discussions and networking and case conferences with other agencies.
- Build up a strong network with the community to enable access to help for our clients.
- Grow our pool of befrienders to enable the preservation and reunification of children with their families.
- Activate, bridge and support befrienders to enable them to support children and families matched to them.
- Establish close working partnership both internally and with other stakeholders and institutions so as to maximise our community resources and support systems.
- You will support the Manager/Assistant Manager in the development and evaluation of our programmes where needed.
- Enable professional development of your supervisees actively and also contribute to professional development of other staff in TSA when needed through learning needs analysis, developing and providing training, skills coaching and any other means necessary.
- Contribute strategic inputs at a macro level for BFF with the support of the Manager
- For the position of the ASSW, you will be expected to provide supervision to social workers, caseworkers and interns on placements in consultation with the Manager/Assistant Manager to support staff and ensure quality services are provided to clients.
Degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
Job Requirements
- Experience in working with families who are under child protection preferred.
- Able to activate and mobilise befrienders and community support well for vulnerable families and children.
- For ASSW, at least 5 years experience in SW and with at least 2 years in supervisory capacity and able to inspire befrienders and community partners.

Working Hours
This role will require flexibility to meet the needs of your clients and befrienders in times of timing and location. Under normal circumstances the hours of duty will be as follows:9.30am to 6.30pm - Monday to Friday (inclusive 1 hour lunch break)
