The Methodist School of Music (MSM) is an agency of The Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS). Its Worship and Music (WM) arm seeks to enhance the quality of worship by nurturing and equipping the body of Christ in the areas of Worship and Music. At the same time, as a private school registered with the Ministry of Education, the school offers various music instrumental and dance classes through its Community Music (CM) arm.
We have a vacancy for Piano Teacher.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. Primary Duties – Piano and Music Teaching:
- Teach piano via individual classes as well as group classes, for both children and adults.
- Teach young children (ages 4-6) through group music classes to nurture young children toward the exploration of music through movement, instrument playing, singing and games.
- Teach piano to individuals and groups as part of collaborations / partnerships with external stakeholders and/or at external venues.
- Piano teaching includes teaching classical piano, music theory, ear training, aural, and keyboard improvisation.
- Methodologies include:-
o One-on-one teaching for all levels of piano from beginner level to ARSM, toward international exams (e.g.
UK-based ARSM, TCL); or for personal enrichment, university or school requirements, concert coaching, etc.
o Teaching of music theory from the UK-based syllabi.
o Teaching ear training, aural, keyboard improvisation as required to fulfil the abovementioned purposes.
o May involve teaching piano offsite as part of collaborations / partnerships with external stakeholders and/or
at external venues.
2. Secondary Duties – Support School Events / Courses / Groups:
- Support staff and students for events such as concert preparation, rehearsals, providing music accompaniment, organizing and miscellaneous related duties.
- Participate in community activities which involve the MSM community.
- Administrative work to facilitate the above.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Music (Arts, or Performance, Music Education), with secondary studies and experience in classroom teaching for young children. Piano Concentration.
- At least 5 years of teaching experiences.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Experience in event organization.
- Have good project management and problem-solving skills to analyse issues and recommend solutions.
- Able to work well independently and under tight timelines.
- Proficient in MS Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
- Basic proficiency in music software applications such as Finale, Musescore, Sibelius.
