We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as an SVP, New Economy Portfolio Coverage.
Principal Responsibilities
HSBC seeks to be the Leading New Economy Bank across South and South-East Asia, with a clear strategy to deepen relationships with fast growth companies and increase coverage of early-stage investors.
To support this strategy, we seek an exceptional individual to act as a Senior Relationship Manager to a portfolio of New Economy clients. This newly created role will be focused on building a new portfolio of fast-growth, high-potential clients – typically backed by Venture Capital firms, with highly disruptive business models. This role will also involve coordinating with colleagues around the Group, including those focused on equity investments (both through HSBC Ventures and AMG), Innovation Lending / Venture Debt teams, as well as Global Payments & Solutions, and Global Markets.
- Transaction and relationship origination through personal network of early-stage investors, founders, and start-up eco-system partners
- Day-to-day relationship management for New Economy clients – offering an end-to-end proposition across transactional banking, international opportunities, and lending
- Conducting sector research and target company screening, undertaking due diligence, building detailed financial models and term sheets, structuring & credit, negotiations, and legal documentation
- Regular tracking and updates of portfolio company performance, and capital raising
- Establishing and cultivating relationships with VC-backed companies and external partners (incl. lawyers, accountants, financial advisors etc.) and other relevant institutions for business development
Qualifications - External
- Minimum of 5 years in a similar capacity
- Relationship management experience, including strong capabilities across core transactional banking products. Strong focus on bringing new relationships and opportunities into the firm
- Successful track record of risk management, across both credit and financial crime risk
- Experience of working with founders or early-stage investors would be highly valued
- High level of interpersonal, writing, technical and financial modelling skills. Ability to work well with diverse teams, and deal with multiple internal & external stakeholders
- Self-starter with a proven ability to lead and manage multiple priorities, and to work independently
- Appetite to build something new and innovative, and be part of a new strategic priority for the bank in South & South-East Asia
