As Chief Librarian, you are expected to be IT savvy and proficient in harnessing the power of technology to search for information. Your primary responsibilities are:
- To assist School Leaders in conceptualizing library of the future.
- To assist in rolling out plans related to developing library in line with school’s overall strategic directions and focus.
- To develop and enhance the library’s digital collection to support teaching and learning in school.
- To work with the relevant Deans and or Directors to create programmes which will further support and enhance teaching and learning.
- To manage the operational, administrative, procurement and budgetary functions of the Library;
- To develop and manage the accessibility to Library including cataloguing, classification, filing systems, collection management policies and stock-taking etc;
- To plan and execute Library’s awareness and user-education programmes;
- To support teachers and students in teaching and learning functions by assessing the resource needs, providing subject collection expertise, alert services on subject matters, reference services, environmental scanning etc;
- To select, manage and develop the library collections
- To implement and maintain service standards in the Library
- To supervise the library staff and student librarians
- To participate in project teams to develop the services, facilities and systems
- To keep abreast of the development in library science and to recommend any innovations or new systems to ensure the continual upgrading of the library to meet the needs of students and staff
Job Requirements:
- A recognized bachelor's degree in any field.
- 2 to 3 years of professional working experience in academic or research libraries.
- Excellent communication skills and a strong service-orientation.
- Good interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Able to work independently as well as in a team.
