Sales Planner, Ad Sales

Job purpose

The Sales Planner – Singapore & SEA supports the Singapore based sales team & SEA sales reps by managing responses to TV, digital and audio sales briefs from agencies & clients in Singapore & regionally. The role includes planning media campaigns, working with agencies/clients & the sales team to refine proposal responses, setting up campaigns within BBC booking systems and working with Ad Operations on campaign implementation, optimisation, reporting and technical troubleshooting. Working closely with Ad Operations, Pricing & Inventory, Insights and Business Intelligence, the Sales Planner provides in-depth knowledge of internal technical processes & policies relating to broadcast & digital solutions and draws on this information to support the sales team(s). Sales Planners also have a technical and commercial perspective on new digital products and commercial opportunities.


The Sales Planner is also increasingly the POC for digital programmatic ad sales to agencies & supports the SG sales teams in this role.


In summary the Sales Planner is an essential element of the BBC Studios Ad Sales team, and there is opportunity to progress to a Sales Executive or other roles within BBC Studios if successful in this role.



Key responsibilities and accountabilities


Managing Broadcast & Digital Sales Campaigns

  • Works closely with sales leads and BBC StoryWorks (content production team in Singapore) to respond to advertising briefs from agencies/clients and work closely with sales & BBCSW to develop competitive, compelling options and propose solutions to secure business for BBC Studios
  • Provide information for proactive pitches & work with sales to develop media plans across BBC Studios commercial TV, digital & audio Platforms
  • Review inventory availability and inform contacts in the client/agency business on placement options and best performance solutions.
  • Develop a reputation detail obsessed, trusted multitasker with the ability to handle many projects simultaneously
  • Be comfortable in managing day-to-day enquiries from agencies/clients and programmatic treading desks. Support in-region BBC GN sales reps & act as the first point of contact for their needs and information in the absence of the sales leads availability
  • Work closely with the in-house campaign management, optimization and coordination teams to ensure smooth delivery and reporting of TV and digital campaigns



Launching and Implementing Campaigns

  • Work closely with TV and Digital Ad Operations and BBCSW compliance leads to set up and launch campaigns on time, in line with client expectations and BBC compliance regulations
  • Manage, review, optimize and troubleshoot any TV and digital campaigns to ensure delivery of contracted media in line with agreed TV & digital deals.
  • Follow up with clients/agencies and internal departments to gain feedback on campaigns and address any potential issues or concerns, questions, comments & suggestions
  • Check that campaigns have delivered in line with insertion orders and that revenue is recognized appropriately.
  • Work with P&I, Insights and BBCSW to provide campaign performance reports for agencies and the sales team detailing click-through, impression levels, on schedule indicators, etc.


Technical Troubleshooting and Campaign Optimization

  • With Ad Operations, conduct technical troubleshooting and resolve any issues identified with regards to digital, TV and audio campaign delivery
  • Monitor campaign performance and optimize campaigns to increase effectiveness and audience reach via in-house software and planning & reporting tools


Client/Agency Engagement

  • Establish relationships with key contacts in clients/agencies to facilitate the smooth implementation of campaigns prior too, during and post campaign end
  • Liaise with agencies to promote the BBC digital proposition and educate them on digital products and opportunities.
  • Become the POC for programmatic trading decks planners/managers in SG and SEA in order to help them advertise on BBC.com digital platform


Developing Professional Capability

  • Agree a development plan with the VP Advertising Sales to increase capability, competency, and industry knowledge in line with business needs
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends, new product developments within BBCGN and the competition to develop a reputation as a digital advocate and advisor within the sales team.


Strategic Planning & Decision Making

  • Respond to agency/client briefs, develop options to propose solutions.
  • Monitor inventory availability and books campaigns.
  • Work with Advertising Operations to set up and launch online campaigns.
  • Liaise with the sales lead, Finance, BBC StoryWorks and BBC Business & Legal Affairs to set up templated client contracts for signing and tracking
  • Monitor campaigns and conduct campaign optimization to improve performance or campaign
  • Provide a “knowledge bridge” between the digital team in Ad Operations and the sales teams.
  • Troubleshoot and report technical issues working as a liaison point between agencies/clients and Ad Operations.


Relationships

  • VP Advertising Sales - business and performance reviews, coaching & mentoring
  • Singapore Sales Team - responding to briefs, pitching, campaign reporting daily/weekly, coaching & mentoring
  • TV and Digital Advertising Operations - technical aspects of campaign management, troubleshooting daily/weekly, technical coaching and mentoring.
  • APAC Planning Lead - new product information, digital promotion daily/weekly, coaching & mentoring
  • Clients & Agencies – campaign & creative set-up and management, reporting, optimisation, programmatic direct sales in conjunction with BBC sales team


Knowledge, skills, training and experience


Essential

  • Attention to detail & ability to multitask & work under pressure to defined deadlines.
  • Self-starter, inquisitive about media and advertising industry
  • Strong, confident communicator with internal and external stakeholders
  • IT literate/technically comfortable and willing to learn new software & systems
  • Numerate and data savvy
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a small team. Willingness to contribute to the success of the team
  • Be a self-starter, work remotely and out of hours if necessary.
  • Good spoken & written English

  • Media Industry and platforms – Digital or broadcast advertising if possible
