The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 13-month contract at the Office of Education Research (OER).
Project Title: Research Data Management for Secondary Analysis and Reuse: Foundational Phase Implementation towards a Lifecycle Model
Project Introduction: Proper management and documentation of research data following the life cycle model is a critical aspect of good scientific practice that can lead to increased confidence in research findings, collaboration and data reuse. This project aims to promote the effective management of research data by supporting research teams in 1) documenting key data workflows from planning through collection and preservation to sharing and reuse; 2) increasing discoverability and visualization of metadata information of research data; 3) establishing an RDM toolkit comprising guides, metadata templates, and data curation SOPs tailored for our researchers.
Requirements:
Education Qualifications:
- Minimum Educational Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Information/Library Science (preferred) or related Social Science disciplines.
- Other Education Considerations: Courses or certifications in research data management, data curation, or related areas are a plus.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Research Data Management Skills: Familiarity with research lifecycle, understanding of RDM principles, including data preservation, access, and re-use.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of metadata standards, data visualization tools, and quantitative data analysis.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective documentation and collaboration.
- Software Competence: Experience with data management software and data visualization tools is a plus.

- Data Curation: Provide data curatorial support for NIE research projects, ensuring quality control and comprehensive documentation.
- Data Documentation and Metadata Management: Generate and manage high-quality metadata information and data documentation for enhanced data reusability.
- RDM Toolkit Development: Contribute to the development of RDM toolkits, including guides, templates, and standard operating procedures.
- Support for Data Access and Visualization: Assist in the facilitation of data searching and visualization processes for research data.
- Other project specific tasks as assigned by the PI.
