Assistant Manager, Finance

NTU Shared Services (NSS) is a centralized unit within Nanyang Technological University (NTU) that provides a wide range of administrative, operational, and support services to various departments and units within the university. Its primary goal is to streamline and optimize processes, enhance operational efficiency, and deliver high-quality services to support NTU's core mission of education and research.

The Assistant Manager, Finance is responsible for :

Operational & Service Delivery

  • Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the University's Shared Services Finance-Fixed Assets team, ensuring adherence to the University's accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all asset activities, including capitalization of assets under construction (work-in-progress), asset acquisition, disposals, transfers, and depreciation postings.
  • Review asset-related journal postings, Asset Under Construction costing for settlement to final assets, schedules, reconciliations and reports prepared by the team.
  • Review and approve asset disposals via the Asset Management System (AMS).
  • Review Monthly/Quarterly/Year-end Financial closing reports, ensuring all reporting/schedules and adjustment entries are accurately and promptly prepared/posted.
  • Liaise with Internal/external Auditors regarding audit queries.
  • Supervise and coach team members, to ensure all deliverables of the team are completed accurately and on time.
  • Develop team members to groom them for more complex/senior roles in the team.
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures and Knowledge Articles are up-to-date and properly documented.
  • Monitor and manage KPIs and SLAs to ensure they are achieved with the highest level of customer service.
  • Identify automation and process streamlining opportunities and collaborate with relevant teams on system implementation, enhancement, and user acceptance testing.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects based on business requirements.

Relationship Management/Customer Relations

  • Cooperate and build positive relationships with peers and supervisors to ensure process efficiency and consistency.
  • Communicates with customers and other employees to resolve queries/address requests and concerns.

Requirements

  • Degree with at least 6-8 years of related working experience, preferably in an educational institute.
  • Experience in ERP financial system (e.g., SAP Hana is preferred).
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (e.g., MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.  
  • Detailed oriented, meticulous with positive attitude.
  • Resourceful, self-driven, proactive, problem solver, ability to work independently.
  • Good organisational and planning skills.
  • A team player who works well with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
