Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI) is hiring a full-time Research Engineer I for a project investigating how information cascades in closed messaging app groups, such as Telegram.
The engineer will be developing and applying machine learning, network analysis, and multimodal data to understand information cascades in closed messaging apps. The engineer is expected to conduct data mining, network analysis and machine learning on Telegram chats to understand information cascades revolving national issues in closed messaging apps. The engineer will work closely with research project members at WKWSCI, to deliver algorithms that automate user classification and topic modelling, that will later serve as protocols for other topics.
Selected candidate will work closely with Assoc Prof Edson Tandoc Jr.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop solutions for data mining of text and stickers/images/videos on Telegram
Develop solutions to categorize Telegram users based on network topologies
Develop machine learning models to predict user roles and information cascade patterns
Collaborate with other researchers in a multi-disciplinary team, while work independently on given tasks
Job Requirements:
Bachelor degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Programming, Data Science or a related field
Preferably 2 and more years of professional programming experience
Experience in Natural Language Processing and Computer Vision
Experience in Network Analysis and Machine Learning
Writing clean, readable, and easily maintainable code
Ability to manage your own time effectively and deliver required tasks with minimal supervision
Good teamwork skills
Interest in applications of technology in academic research
