PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Practice all IVF procedures in accordance to laboratory protocols, which includes the following:
- Receives, identifies and processes sperm specimens according to SOP and records tests ordered in assigned record book.
- Prints sperm laboratory reports for despatch to requesting doctors.
- Prepares culture media and keeps track of expired culture media or raised purchase requisition forms to replenish reagent stock and plastic consumables.
- Washes and prepares sterile glassware or plastic eppendorf tips and tubes for laboratory uses.
- Identifies cumulus-corona complexes at egg collection procedures, performs sperm preparation for in-vitro fertilization, checks for confirmation of fertilization and culture of and grading of embryos for the purpose of embryo transfer and freezing. For ICSI cases, removes cumulus and corona from eggs prior to injection. Prepares microtools for injection and carries out sperm and embryo freezing and thawing procedures.
- Communicates with gynaecologist and referring doctors on laboratory results.
- Orders laboratory reagents and consumables when par level is reached and maintains standard of cleanliness and aseptic techniques required for an embryo culture laboratory.
- Calibrates and maintains equipment following established procedures. Performs daily checks on critical equipments’ efficiency and performance.
- Provides feedback to Chief Scientist about the purchase of products and services supplied by vendors to assist vendor evaluations.
- Maintains and updates the quality records according to the standard guidelines on identification, filing, storage, maintenance and control where applicable.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Possess Bachelors degree from a recognized university in Biotechnology.
- Knowledge in appropriate ways to obtain gametes for tests, its preservation, transport, working knowledge and skills in handling gametes.
- Ability to prepare culture media to meet requirement, organise and plan work schedules.
- Able to perform all tasks required of a clinical embryological and be accredited to MOH
- Possess good communication and patient-relations skills
- Able and willing to work on 5.5-day work week
- Able to work independently as well as in a team
