RESPONSIBILITIES
- IT Procurement
- Coordinate the acquisition of new servers, including scoping of requirements, evaluating specifications, and selecting suitable hardware.
- Manage the decommissioning process of old servers, ensuring proper disposal of data and components.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of hardware components within servers and workstations to make informed decisions.
- Ensures that the research space has sufficient thermal cooling and power consumption.
- Keep abreast of semiconductor (eg. AMD/Intel/Nvidia) roadmaps and developments.
- Data Center Administration
- Facilitate the provisioning of IP addresses for servers.
- Conduct data center walkabouts to monitor and ensure the integrity of physical infrastructure.
- Perform physical server inspections and maintain accurate records of server inventory.
- Collaborate with cost centers for internal audits, ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
- Track power and thermal consumption, optimizing energy efficiency and preventing potential issues.
- Allocate rack space efficiently and maintain organized server placement.
- Lead server decommissioning efforts, ensuring secure data wiping and proper disposal.
- Able to troubleshoot hardware-related issues on servers.
- Enforcement of IT best practices
- Enforce best practices across research and teaching to safeguard data and to ensure a firm security posture.
- Assist and ensure all research systems are updated and patched promptly to address security vulnerabilities & cyberthreats.
- Support faculty, researchers and students in their research and development work
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to university staff and students regarding system-related issues, including hardware, software, package dependencies, and network problems.
- Respond to service requests, diagnose problems, and offer timely solutions to ensure minimal disruptions.
- Triage, troubleshoot and resolve technical problems with end users.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a similar capacity.
- Diploma in Information Technology (or equivalent) with 4 years relevant experience may be considered.
- Demonstrates an understanding of procurement concepts and business processes.
- Knowledgeable in purchasing, IT projects, payment milestones, and cost breakdowns.
- Execute strategic procurement processes, demand management and forecasting.
- Responsible for gathering and representing business requirements within the negotiations and contracting.
- Ensure work is in line with the Company Procurement Policy and Guidelines.
- Maintain centralised contract repository, completed contracts, SOW's, addendum's for appointed sourcing categories.
- Upkeep purchased records and provide monthly reports for all orders.
- Manage and source for vendors with competitive prices.
- Budgeting for purchases.
- Basic IT networking concepts is a plus.
- Administration of enterprise software (good to have).
- Data centre administration (good to have).
- Strong technology and common business acumen.
- A self-starter, always striving for excellence, innovative with service-oriented mindsets and initiative to improve processes.
- Attention to details, sound decision-making abilities, Independent, with initiative, positive attitude, and keen interest in exploring the areas of systems and data center management.
